My father was a ground mechanic on B-17 Flying Fortress's based in Knettishall, England, '43 - '45. Growing up, we had 3 airplane models hanging from the basement ceiling - B-17, B-24 Liberator, and B-29 Superfortress. I had forgotten that the Superforts got into service in the Pacific Theatre until WC's question, however.

Yup. The Lib and the Superfort had longer range than the '17, which made them very useful in the PTO. The whole point, I think, of taking Iwo Jima was to set up a base for Superfort operations over Japan..like the Enola Gay.

I like cool weather. If you asked a question about the Bradbury book, I would probably call it Fahrenheit 351.
