1..Pony & vtc are the Rod Stewart followers.

2..It's Richard Carlson portraying Herbert Philbrick, as rbny is most complete. Like him,
I watched it every week.

3..Champlain, he of the large NY lake. Credit to diva & our 2 V's.

4..Geordi has the right mental set. Joe was a pilot, not particularly associated with a boat. But not long after his death, a Joseph P Kennedy Jr. Destroyer was commisioned.

5..Pony & diva are righteous with Groucho.

6..Rbny & diva score with Aaron Copeland.

9..San Joachim or Central--pony & VAUC on top of this.

Stay tuned.

10..Tom Petty--when will you folks start using your imagination?

11..The show offered people a choice in who they wanted to resemble--"Famous Face".

12..Pony leads an ancient quartet in specifying "90".

13..Living in the moment as they do, VAUC & geordi correctly provide Missouri Valley.

3. Lake Champlain is not a New York lake. It's a shared lake. It borders New York and Vermont with the northermost portion of the lake extending into Canada. Vermont claims the largest square footage (56%) of the lake. New York claims 37%.

4. The USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr (DD-850) was a Gearing class destroyer. Destroyers are properly called ships, not boats.

As the Captain on the Windjammer cruises used to tell me several times each day, "It's a ship, dammit!"

Calling a ship (especially a warship) a boat is a common lubber's mistake. Except for a submarine of course. :)

Vtc, I've had enough time to realize that you are one of those folks who just love to argue.
Fine, such folks are part of what makes the world go 'round. I'm not among them.
In my experience, sometimes such folks will deliberately enter into a realm of silliness, hoping to goad the others into discourse, with an inner smile if successful. OK, this time let's play.

This board is not a sea-going venture; we are land based and are entitled to use lingo perfectly suited to our location. I have no interest in being swayed by the "land lubber' label, for it comes from one on the water. Our enterprise is land based.
If we wish to discuss a country way off in Europe, we don't apologize to, e.g. Spain because we call the country "Spain", while its people use "Espana. If we want to be understood while visiting Spain, it makes sense to use the word "Espana". Here, it may confuse conversation.

You need to lecture me on the use of "boat" and "ship"? What am I, 7 years old?
Anything that floats that people can ride on or in is a boat. While not all boats are
ships, all ships ARE boats. Onetrickpony acknowledges that the distinction has no meaning to him. Pony is a wise fella.

I imagine you realize that my reference to a "NY lake" was an after-the-fact addition,
simply to link a test answer to a piece of geography, in case anyone needed reminding. I did not state that it was exclusively a NY lake, so who could possibly think (besides your singular self) that the arcane %s of water belonging to each state has relevance?...or is remotely interesting? Are Vermonters searching for an excuse to invade NY?

Anyway, while I have respect for your general knowledge of stuff over the course of our tests, here you're being a goofball.

3 cheers to Wirechief!!!

He takes the trouble to challenge our more mental side - a mix of current events, entertainment tidbits and some arcania.

It is idle enjoyment to read the questions (and responses); it is also enjoyable when I can respond because I (think) I know something that is either in debate or not mentioned yet. And equally fustrating for the number of times I know I knew that answer but it has receded into the unfathomable depths of refusing to be recalled information.

I say again, 3 cheers for the Testmeister!!

In my defense and before I say adieu -

I grew up on an island in Lake Champlain. It is not a New York lake.

I also made two North Atlantic cruises on a Gearing class destroyer. A warSHIP of the US Navy. I served on 6 ships during my career. None of them were boats. One who believes that anything that floats is a boat is indeed a lubber.

WC - While I may be a "goofball" whatever that is, how often have my challenges to your errors been found wrong? You're the guy that thought the Bon Homme Richard sank the Serapis and you're the guy that couldn't admit the existance of soft tacos. What does that make you? Too lazy to fact check?
