Last night I spoke to my grandson who has just reached the age of reason. Since we last spoke, the little lad has endured a new state, new school and a new baby brother. Thankfully, he is coping well. He's a real Harry Potter fan, and I look forward to the family traveling to me in February to visit that attraction.
Now I have been warned (just in case any readers are contemplating such a snowbird trip) to avoid the weeks of spring break and anticipate, naturally, long lines.
So now to business...

It is only #8 that your collective soul has omitted. It's a city in Belguim.

Where in Italy?

Sunny, balmy Italy? I remember walking outside my hotel in Bologna several years ago only to find 3-4 inches of snow on the ground - in April.

My first non military trip to Italy found me in Sardenia on New Year's Eve, standing in a snowstorm outside a hotel that had no rooms - even though I had a reservation. I welcomed the new year drinking grappa and tossing firecrackers with some newfound Sardenian friends. The owners were kind enough to let me sleep in the lobby. :)

We are in Vicenza - about halfway between Venice and Verona. It's been pretty bright and sunny most days with temps at about 45. I'll bet it surprises you that the food is good (LOL) [actually the northern Italian lasagna is tremendous.] If it'll make you feel any better, I'll have an Amarone or a nice Barolo for you, NCOR, and wire. Buon Natale again.

Envy here also, geordi, and a special Buon Natale back to you.

1..You and Fair have the Latin, though Fair is more precise in word order. VAUC with the English.

2..VAUC also provides Denmark.

3..VAUC opens the discussion with primates, a quartet of them actually, setting the stage for Pinot & NCor
to cite orangutang.

4..The Kyoto Protocol works nicely. Credit to Fair & NCor.

5..You'll find, VAUC, that "America" is too long for the spaces. We're looking for that '50's TV show
where "Video" fits nicely in both blanks. Fair & geordi are good.

6..Immaculate Conception, say NCor & VTC & geordi.

7..NCor provides Russia.

8..VAUC rebounds his own miss, then a 2nd board, before scoring with Liege.

9..Melanie's Woodstock creation, Candles in the Rain, which forever changed mr006 (where you been?).
Fair's got it too.

10..Barefoot Bandit, whose exploits are followed by VTC.

11..VTC & NCor correctly proffer El Salvador.

12..A tough one, but that did not deter crownfox. British Guiana

13..Vaclav Havel--geordi & VTC.

The next 12 will take longer, but that's OK because all of you(except geordi) are asleep.
