You're crazy if you'd take anyone besides Saban, Dabo, Meyer, Patterson or Harbaugh over Jimbo.

It's funny you say that because I think if you gave the following folks the exact same team, they would beat Fisher head-to-head:

Leach, Petrino, Richt, Peterson, Gundy. In fact, Richt already did it this year and you could argue he has less talent. I would definitely argue that....

How's he doing in the ACC now?

On paper: very well, but the FSU and GT games were much too close for comfort. They're ranked a lot higher than they should be.

Miami doesn't have the same talent as FSU right now. I don't think anyone would argue that they do. And he still won.

The real interesting thing is that in the next couple of years with him at the helm, it's VERY likely that they will have the same talent. FSU had better get used to losing that game...

He probably should have beaten FSU last year. He doesn't have a "finished product" at Miami. He's got some really good players, but they have a lot of holes as well. He and his staff have done a really good job running that program and when he actually has a stocked roster, I think he will be sticking it to FSU more often than not. He's won 11 games in a row now, it's hard to argue with those results.

Jimbo Fisher is conservatively a top 10 coach and arguably a top 5 coach in college football. Name me 10 better coaches than Jimbo Fisher

I agree, but just for fun:

Nick Saban
Dabo Swinney
Gary Patterson
David Shaw
James Franklin
Mark Richt
Chris Peterson

It gets tougher here:
Mike Gundy
Kirby Smart
Jim Harbaugh
Randy Edsall

I said I wasn't sure I could say he was top 10.

But for argument's sake, let's give this a try. Folks I would likely hire before Jimbo Fisher:

B1G
1) Urban Meyer
2) Jim Harbaugh
3) Paul Cryst
4) James Franklin (although he's a jerk and I would consider not taking him also)

PAC12
1) Mike Leach
2) Chris Peterson
3) possibly David Shaw

ACC
1) Dabo Swinney
2) Mark Richt

Big12
1) Tom Herman
2) Mike Gundy
3) Gary Patterson
4) Dana Holgorsen (possibly) You must be joking

SEC
1) Nick Saban
2) Dan Mullen (possibly)
3) Brett Bielema

There's 16 legitimate names in my opinion of people that I would hire before Jimbo Fisher, and I haven't even covered folks like Doeren, etc., who I would also consider. Petrino is probably a better coach also, although I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. I also wouldn't touch Brian Kelly, but there is no doubt that he has been successful at every stop he's been at.

So....yeah....I'm not sure I can say top 10...

Fixed your list. Assuming we are only talking about current NCAA head coaches. Fisher is top 5, a couple guys I left are only 'better' because of how they fit in their current situation. Patterson, Harbaugh, Franklin and possibly Herman wouldn't work in FL as well as they do in their current region.

If you think taking Chris Peterson off my list "fixes" it, then I don't know what to say to you. I'd take him as my head coach before I took Herman, and it isn't even close...

He isn't the same guy in the southeast. Just like Herman and Patterson aren't the same guy outside of TX or Franklin in PA or Harbaugh in MI. This thread is about FSU. The only guys college guys going there and doing a better job than Jimbo are Saban, Dabo, or Urban and none of those guys are going to FSU (maybe you can get Urban in a few years).

You put Holgorsen on the list, so you shouldn't be saying much of anything to other people.

I said possibly Holgorsen, and I stand by that. If you think his WVU classes through the years were the athletic equivalent of the teams he was beating, you're kidding yourself. Also, Peterson would be just fine at FSU, as would about 10 - 15 other coaches. The point is that FSU recruits itself, and then it's about the X's and O's from the coach. You also crossed off Richt, who has already proven you wrong.

Whatever, this is a silly thing to fight about and I'll let you and a few others continue to fight on about it. The only things I wanted to say in this thread is:

1) Jimbo is a very very good coach.
2) If you think that there are only 4 or 5 other people in the country that could do what Jimbo is doing, you're only kidding yourself.

A 35-3 loss to BC is going to ratchet up the FSU fanbase discontent a few notches. BC's first home ACC win since 2013 season...first conference win for the Sr class..

I don’t know what’s going on at FSU, but those kids did not want to play football last night. I think they expect to play for a National Championship every season, so after a couple of losses they throw in the towel.

There is definitely an "I quit" factor in Tallahassee right now. It's been so long since that program faced adversity that I don't think anyone there knows how to handle it. I will enjoy watching more meltdown type losses from them in the weeks to come.

Hard to know how good a coach is often times.

How good are his coordinators.
How well does he evaluate coordinators and recruits.
How well does the head coach and staff recruit.
Were the last 2 years of success more to do with the incredibly dynamic QB than the coach.
Tradition of the program that recruits gravitate towards.
Support from institutions, boosters and fans.

So many factors to consider. Most questions can not be answered completely
unless you are very close to the program.

We have seen great QB elevate a program, which elevates the coach. Or a very good coordinator comes or goes and program flourishes or flounders.

After we won a championship with Ollie most people held him in high regard as a coach.
Years later its fair to question if Shabazz(dynamic QB)was a better coach than Ollie.

You know, if FSU picks up a couple more losses this year with a roster full of 5-star players, I might start to believe that Jimbo isn't a top 5 coach anymore... ;)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Yep. Team was completely not in to competing. BCU physically punished FSU.

We saw it last year with the Huskies. It is very easy for a coach to lose a team mid-season. None of these Notes want to play on a 2-5 team. But they are where they are because of what they are.

That is Missorri tonight. They have a losing mindset.

When things start to go wrong on the road at night in a game they are supposed to win easily? The quit is going to come out

I've been following BC closely this year. They're light years better than last year. Their RBs are really good and their lines are massive. Is going to be a horrible matchup for our youngsters next month I fear

FSU has always had a tough time with BC except for 2 games in the last 7 years. BC has a done a 180 since the beginning of the season with mostly freshman, redshirt freshman and sophomores. I hope we keep winning and have a clash of two teams on winning streaks to increase the interest in the game.
