This is what happens when the networks, not the universities, are really making the decisions on the future of college athletics. All they care about is ratings, not grades, grad rates, student athletes, or tradition. Pretty sad state of affairs.
The universities don't care about the business side because sports is ancillary. More money = good, and who cares? But the academic side with the APR is a joke. This morning Murray Sperber analyzed a study that showed that since the APR was instituted, there has been more homogenization of majors among football players than ever before, with advisors pushing kids into majors without the kids even realizing what they are taking. So, people can point to students staying within the APR's good graces (easy to do if you game the system) but meanwhile, the whole thing is a sham. Eric Bledsoe counts as much as a UK graduate. Come on!
