I couldn't possibly reduce a list to 300...but here's a few off the top pf my head...

"Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" - Manfred Mann
"FM" - Steely Dan
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" - Dylan, but I like Guns & Roses version...

I'm just sittin' in my taxi thinking that ya' can't have Chapin without mentioning Croce.
Trying to pick your favorite three pop (whatever that is) songs is an excercise in futility. However, I just ran a Croce CD during dinner and now I'm digging for Harry Chapin. :) I don't think I've played either CD in years.

Thanks for the reminders.

If it makes the Billboard Top 100 its pop music. Otherwise its genre ranging from adult contemporary to rock to blues to country.

If the classic DJs weren't slinging the disks then it wasn't pop

Then there's failed pop. Bands who sold out only to create unpopular music.

..so, that would be "UnPop"?:p Is that anything like UnCola?

Here's a twist...I'm picking 3 groups that I don't think have been mentioned. Do you have a favorite song from...

Allman Bros. or
Evanescence or
Moody Blues

1. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel
2. The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles
3. Stoney End - Barbra Streisand

Just a trio off the top of my head (and my iTunes account)

-- Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes)
-- Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones)
-- Centerfield (John Fogerty)...and with that, spring is here!

But I could have listed another 50 very easily, it just so happens these were the most recently played...

A disparate group you are, indeed. Allow me to throw out 3 more well known songs to see how you react...

Taxi--Harry Chapin
The Boxer-- Simon & Garfunkel
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For--U-2
All good songs. Not in my top 25 or even top 100. But good none the less. Although The Boxer might be close. (Although Bridge Over Troubled Water would probably rate higher.)

Funny no one has mentioned this "classic" Pop song. Mmmmmmmm

I'll call that.

Allman Brothers - have to go with Melissa (for Mrs Meyers ;)) Although it would be behind Ramblin' Man otherwise.

Evanescence - Although Bring Me to Life is great, I think my favorite would be Hello.

Moody Blues - hmmm, haven't really listened to them in years. Probably have to go with I'm Just a Singer In a Rock and Roll Band.

And raise you

Styx, Kansas, and REO Speedwagon. (since I saw them together a year or so ago, down at Mohegan - my gosh they were old)

Sigh...it's the long post season. You know what that means? Yes, silly ol' exercises.
I call it that cause Silly ol' bear will be the first to play. Not a test; not a contest, just a way
for fans to express their tastes.

Below I list 3 songs that I think have a shot at your inclusion in the top 25 pop songs of all time. Say yes or no, then add your own 3 for others to comment on.

Me and Bobby McGee--Janis Joplin
Legs--ZZ Top
Us and Them--Pink Floyd

It's a little easier because you're looking for inclusion in the top 25. So I get to give more than 3 without feeling too bad...

Layla -- Derek & the Dominoes
Bohemian Rhapsody -- Queen
Rock Around the Clock -- Bill Haley & the Comets
Billie Jean -- Michael Jackson
The Twist -- Chubby Checker
Comfortably Numb -- Pink Floyd
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band -- The Beatles

Of course, my selections reflect my generation (Ooooh! There's another one! "My Generation" -- the Who. )

Hey, you can't pick Rock Around the Clock AND Billy Jean and call it 0ne generation.

Even people of my era are able to appreciate newer things on occasion.

Newer? Billie Jean is around 30 years old and it's writer has been dead for almost 4 years.

No one has mentioned Sam the Sham and the Pharohs. Wooly Bully.

With all due respect: Top 25 of all time?????????
zorro must have meant to post in the misheard lyrics thread with that one. :D

Allman Bros. or

Moody Blues

Allman Bros. (love the Elizabeth Reed side* of Fillmore East with Hot Lanta. Defining twin guitar stuff
Evanescence (My Immortal). The other single is probably better but this one is pure Amy.
Moody Blues (Timothy Leary's Dead. AKA Legend of a Mind from In Search of the Lost Chord, a great a 1968 psycedelic concept album. Take your acid boys and girls. Tune in and drop out. And deal drugs and ruin your life in prison a la Leary

* Yes, Vinyl.

3 in Dove's Top 25:

"Every Breath You Take" The Police

"At Last" by Etta freakin' James

"Redemption Song" by Bob Marley
