Brian Kelly interviewing with the Eagles. South Bend in terror of returning to irrelevancy.

I'm no football expert -- but I have a passing toe in the viewing thereof. And before the game, I turned to a friend and said, "Dunno, seems to me ND is a paper tiger. Who have they played? I think it's going to be a blow out."

Perhaps I should get a job as a college football pundit?

Just a guess here: he is using the NFL [apparently the Bears also have interest] to get a nice raise from ND. Guess #2: he won't get an offer due to complete lack of NFL experience....but just the thought of him leaving will get ND to pony up and up...and up.

I suspect that is true, too. But I can hope.

I don't know what he's thinking. If he can't handle the pressure to get ND a title, does he think it will be better in Philly where fans may be less tolerable than ND fans? I can't blame him though. He has had a pretty meteoric rise. I was at ND three years ago when he was first introduced to the crowd after being hired. Thankfully, I had a great day as the UConn ladies laid a whooping on ND. March 4th may be my next trip to ND :)

As alluded, scheduling and an incredible spate of luck made Notre Dame relevant this season. You are going to tell me that a team that goes into triple overtime against Pittsburgh has a fighter's chance against Alabama? Or any of the other Top 10 teams for that much? On the bright side, the Fighting Irish getting their butts handed to them in such a manner will have me smiling for years to come.

If Brian Kelly gets a nice raise, it would be pleasing if Notre Dame fades to irrelevance anyway. It will not happen this year or next, though, realistically.

Draft Day will be interesting. My feeling is that Manti T'eo drops to the second round, maybe even third. I, sincerely, wish Mr. T'eo the best. I have nothing against him other than he plays for Notre Dame. But, he looked lost Monday.

They all looked lost on Monday. The stat that he had only missed 2 tackles all year entering the Alabama game is simply freakish. That is darn near unrealistic. He will be a first rounder. I am hoping to get into the combine in a few weeks. I just missed it last year.

Absolutely no horse in this race. I couldn't care less about ND football success.

Brian Kelly is an excellent coach, I think. Even my wife, who pretty much never roots for ND, thinks that. If he gets a chance in the NFL, good for him. If not, and he gets a raise, good for him. If not, oh well.

But I will say the ever increasing amounts of coach's contracts at some point needs to be addressed.

You are seriously overqualified. :)

South Bend citizen gets news of Kelly's flirtation with Philly, and then gets the reaction of the remaining Big East schools:

A man (woman) after my own heart. :)

Good. Glad the leprechaun fans are having some angst. Never liked ND, never will - though I would have found a way to tolerate them had they helped the Big East instead of jumping ship to stuff their coffers even more than they already are.

Now...they help us get out of the Big East and into a more* relevant conference for football, the ice in my veins may begin to melt (being overly optimistic).

*more being a relative term. Not sure when this conference realignment quagmire is all over that the ACC will still be relevant, but it can't be worse than the once again disintegrating Big East (bye-bye Boise State...who's next?)

A team badly overrated by the media... They deserved all they got. I was frankly surprised that they did not drop lower in the final poll than they did...

I agree, he is a good coach. My husband is an ND fan and I have watched an awful lot of ND games through the years. Before Kelly got there, the team couldn't tackle or run. The Irish were prone to dumb fouls and all kinds of ridiculous mental errors. But Kelly has instilled fundamentals and discipline into the team and as a result, have won a lot more games.

The problem with the bowl game, besides ND looking remarkably slow next to Alabama, was that the players were just out of their element. None of those guys had any kind of experience playing with the Big Boys. It's like a DePaul-like wcbb team playing similar teams all season and going then getting to the National Championship game and playing a UConn or Baylor. As Geno would say, they didn't know how to win.
