I couldn't have said it better. I'm actually currently reading the books for the first time (book 2 as of now). The TV series fascinated me so much that I now want to know everything about Westeros, Noble Houses etc. so I decided to buy all of the books (I even bought a "History of Westoros" type book that was written by Martin himself).. and this is an investment so I bought them all hardback.
Damn you are committed! The books remain a far richer, expansive, and altogether different experience. When you finish try Patrick Rothfuss' "The Name Of The Wind" series and "The Wheel Of Time" series by Robert Jordan, although Jordan's tends to be over long.
