  • Iced Tea & Lemonade over crushed ice with some raspberry puree added
  • Singapore Sling made at Raffles Pre mid 1970's -- they went down hill in the late in seventies and are really a different and much more commercial drink these days(JMHO)
  • OJ & Pineapple mix with a little grapefruit added to kick the buds alive.

Gin, vodka or rum and tonic.
A good crisp white wine like sauvignon blanc.
Mint julep.
Cold beer, but not any kind of bud. Boston Summer Ale is one of the few domestic beers I like.. And Costco has some Kirkland branded domstic beers that I like a lot.

Riesling from Germany's Mosel valley.
I do like Rieslings but don't think I've had any from there. I'll have to find some and try it.

The ultimate hot weather adult beverage is a gimlet. Make it with good gin stored in the freezer and the incomparable Rose's Lime Juice.

I like Yuengling Light Lager. The ONLY light beer that doesn't taste like light beer. Not available in Connecticut, so we buy it by the case in New York.

When picnicking, we like Pinot Grigio, with ice cubes and maybe a teentsy bit of soda on a real hot day. PG is a decent, cheap, watery Italian white wine that is easily guzzled in mid-summer with a clear conscience.

Sangria. Homemade with lots of fruit and a splash of vodka.
I was just about to add sangria to my list. Red sangria in the evening, white when the sun is still up. Maybe the best invention from Spain!

Since you're the Big Apple Big Dog, I'll share a quick sangria story and well kept Hell's Kitchen secret.

I like sangria (a lot) and have performed many an unscientific survey across the country during extensive biz travels/entertaining. Once while in Atlanta (Buckhead) a few years back, my hosts dragged me to the Cheesecake Factory to dine, but primarily to partake of this locations "Best of Atlanta" sangria. This particular restaurant had won Atlanta's top honors 10 years running. Well of course it was outstanding, but didn't even come close to Arriba Arriba in Hell's Kitchen (9th Ave & 51st St). Best I've ever had! :) Great food as well and reasonably price.

Kool Aid or Flavor Aid all year long; 2cups sugar per gallon augmented with a can of frozen like-flavored juice. It's the only way orange Kool Aid is even potable. To the orange Kool Aid I also add a dash of vanilla extract to give it that orange creamsicle flavor.

Not bad stuff. When I want a somewhat sweeter wine, that's what I buy.
Unsweetened iced tea with lemon is my norm
Maybe a vodka collins or Tom Collins when out

So you're drinking the Kool Aid!! :p

Seriously, though, when will summer get here? Tired of scraping frost!

There are more complicated answers, but for simplicity:

The best summertime drink is also the best anytime drink--Sam Adams Boston Lager, served at 38 degrees.
