Nike’s Quest to Beat the Two-Hour Marathon Comes Up Oh So Short
A tricked -up attempt to break the 2 hour mark in the marathon. The current record is 2:02 and change.
This attempt came about 25 seconds over the mark....it would not have counted as a record with some of the 'perks' afforded the runners....but still it was an incredible run. Given the closeness to going under 2 hours I suspect it will happen under normal circumstances within a year or two. I suspect the challenge for the elite runners is now as much mental as physical....and this race will help their mental side.
Maybe a comparison to the first man to break the 4 minute mile....he showed you could do it....and then many followed. Roger Bannister...maybe in the 1950's? Current mile record is around 3:43...I think.
