These developments had been tracked in multiple threads, bringing them together as both received similar news this week.

Looks like lots of development will happen right near the stadium. I only view these as positives. The outlets really need a Husky-themed bar. All the shops, hotels, casino will be great attractions for when the renovated 60,000 seat Rentschler stadium hosts B1G conference opponents that will love traveling to CT ;)

It would be great if CT legalized sports books at this casino. The Rent would NEVER be empty, even in losing seasons. Our game would be the game that every single fanbase would want to go to if they can bookend trips to a degenerates theme park between watching their team play (and lose!).

I want to see development I. East Hartford. I admit I have a vested interest in seeing our pension fund at least nominally funded. But I do agree that there are far better places to put it. There's a nice business park right next to river point condos with space to give. A short walk over the Bulkley bridge gets you there.

They are insane if they put the casino in East Hartford.

It belongs in the city within walking distance of the convention center.
Downtown casino would be great for the city, although I'm not sure where it would go. That spot Jarhead referenced isn't a bad idea. Otherwise maybe up on Market Street somewhere near the new ballpark?

How about they build a big brand new XL center with the casino included (hopefully some funding from the tribes included?), yea that will happen right around the same time they move 84/91 underground... one can dream.

I'm too young to know the details, but I believe Steve Wynn wanted to build a big casino in the Meadows area back when the casinos were first coming to Connecticut. Times have obviously changed, but if this actually happened I bet there would be less desire to build a casino in Springfield.

I strongly agree however out of the suburban sites being mentioned, East Hartford is by far my favorite. It is still an urban area in need of development and revitalization so it's not some sprawl that's going to built on former farmland. I would really like to see both happen but the outlets look like a sure bet at this point. It'll be a while before the casino issue has any real clarity but I applaud the developer and East Hartford for positioning their proposal very aggressively.

I think the Wynn proposal was actually not far from the Yard Goats Stadium/DoNo development. That area would still be a good one and near the convention center also.

Downtown casino would be awful just like Cleveland's. Until CT fixes its fundamentally awful business climate all a casino will do is help to widen the income gap. Did you see Hartfords latest proposal for a commuter tax? Might as well put a "Closed" sign at the borders.

Wynn is the guy who is building the one in Springfield. Now he has the town upset with him because he has changed the plans he submitted by downgrading the hotel from 26 floors to 6 and Springfield is saying that is not what he told the town. I'm not sure if the size of the casino has changed.

That's MGM doing that. They needed to free up money to sue the state of Connecticut. Wynn is involved in the Boston-area casino. Which should have been placed at Suffolk Downs.

My business trips bring me to the Dover DE casino from time to time. While relatively new, less than 10 years old, it's nothing more than a place to watch seniors and disability claims winners fritter away the day. Sure, I suppose a small casino in Hartford tied to the ball park, a new block of restaurants, some new retail and a revamped XL could become something positive, but I wouldn't get my hopes up that it really will be anything more than a senior center most hrs of the day - particularly inside the bowels of the actual casino.

So then if this is built by the Stadium, we would have to put up with Pasqualoni and DeLeone being within walking distance of The Rent? :(

Better make sure someone took their keys away when they were let go (not that they would remember where they put them at this point--since they have obviously forgotten all of their football knowledge in the past 10 years).

The only tribes who got casinos in CT were allies of the English in King Phillip's War in 1675.

If that's serious about the commuter tax then the state should cut its aid to zero. If I had money to spend it would be on suburban office parks.

Any money grab like a casino or toll booth needs to be used to reduce income taxes and encourage economic development. I am a big proponent of penny sales taxes, tolls etc. when they will be specifically used to reduce debt and dig a city, state or country out of debt. It is a painless solution that is rarely used and when it is, politicians quickly screw it up.

I would hope UConn lobbied the State to ply some concessions from the tribe and/or Horizon in return for approving these projects. I would have called for a small percentage from gaming and or mall revenue to fund/finance the expansion of Rentschler Field. That might allow for a more immediate planning timetable and an un-Jersey like pursuit of stadium expansion without going to taxpayers for deficit funding/bond service, etc. That would not only help us with conference realignment, but a vibrant Rent, filled with 55,000 fans, would substantially benefit both projects.
