There is no question - they are a seven or eight loss team in the Big East.

And about the officiating...holy mother duck*.

Duke got away with two freaking massive offensive duck* ups in the last five seconds.

Rivers shoved Snaer with a forearm for the ages and then Seth Curry took four steps without even bothering to dribble before launching a desperation play.

Alas, they still lost.

Dukie V was ranting about how FSU can't give Rivers a look for 3 there while completely disregarding the fact that Rivers pushed off with his forearm.

How overhyped is Austin Rivers? He's a good player and he'll be good in the NBA, but you hear a lot more about him than you do about a guy like Waiters and Beal, considering he's averaging 17 points per game on 44% shooting with 2 assists and 3 rebounds.

I'd say third or fourth best shooting guard available in this draft.

On a similar note, how underrated is Dion Waiters? The kid is strong, he's got good size, he can jump out of the gym, very fast, very good defender, and he can shoot the heck out of the ball. All this as a sophmore, but yet, he's projected to go in the 20's on NBA draft net? I'd say he's a lottery pick, easy.

I agree that Rivers is overhyped but that is what happens what you are a top recruit playing for Duke who is the son of a high profile NBA coach. I do agree that Waiters can be a very solid NBA player but I think you are overrating his explosiveness and his shooting ability. He's athletic, but not close to a freak and is a very streaky shooter. He has been "on" vs. UCONN so I can see how you could overrate his shooting ability (especially if you saw his studly performance last night).

To be fair to Vitale, he also said he could see this Duke team losing in the first or second round (if they are a 1 seed then second).

Waiters is my favorite non-UConn player. The kid is a complete package as far as I can tell.

He's a fun player to watch aside from being a bit of an ass.

Yeah, but he was talking about Dook in the NBA playoffs. : )

Wouldn't shock me in another year. Funny part is, he is saying how this isn't a "vintage Duke team" when it's still a top 10 team. Does he just assume a vintage Duke team would be #1 all year, because that hasn't happened in years.

and then Seth Curry took four steps without even bothering to dribble before launching a desperation play.

Couldn't believe the announcers -- let alone the refs -- didn't say anything. Well, since it was Dickie V, I can believe it, but still. Four steps is four steps. Had that prayer been answered, would have hit the fan.

meanwhile, a middle school basketball game has broken out in MSG 2night for the cusa ship game.

DOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDD

You ain't kidding - I have never seen a travel that blatant going without being whistled.

It was a four-yard run off tackle.

And it nearly went in.

Are we really surprised at them getting the calls its only been happening since forever. Of course the ACC would have loved Duke-UNC III for the acc championship espn would have been hyping that from the second the final horn went off. The non call in the NCST UNC game at the end was kinda blatant as well I thought for sure that marshall would have been called for a charge at the end of the game.

It is interesting looking at the four 2-guards stats:

34.3 MPG, 14.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.4 SPG, 0.9 BPG, 2.2 TPG. 42%, 78%, 32% @5.0 3PA <-Beal
33.2 MPG, 15.3 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG, 2.3 TPG. 44%, 65%, 37% @4.6 3PA <- Rivers
37.2 MPG, 17.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 2.0 TPG. 48%, 82%, 34% @ 6.2 3PA <- Lamb
23.9 MPG, 12.6 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 1.3 TPG. 48%, 69%, 37% @ 3.2 3PA <- Waiters

Looks like Waiters has the best numbers on a per minute basis for PPG, Assists, Steals, TPG, as well as the best FG%, and 3PT%. He only falls behind on RPG and BPG on a per minute basis and FT%.

Syracuse lists Waiters at the same height as Rivers and an inch taller than Beal's listed height. Lamb is an inch taller. Both Lamb and Beal are said to have crazy length though. Waiters reminds me of Stuckey. Rivers a bit like Delonte West. Lamb is a bit like Ray/Rip. Beal is tough for me, I haven't seen enough of him, people say he's like Ray but his shot isn't nearly as good.

I dunno what the NBA is going to think of Waiters.

I think Boeheim wanted to shoot him most of last year and he has had a habit of randomly punching teammates in the face going back a few years.

I was leaving character out of it. That said Waiters has to have the most negatives in terms of character, but is he worse than say, J.R. Smith? Not as talented probably but can't have a worse attitude.
