"Don't take if allergic to...", but how would you know if you're allergic unless you've used it and had a reaction?


Thought I read somewhere recently the U.S. is one of two countries in the world that allows direct marketing by pharmaceutical companies. Wouldn't be surprising if true. I'm sure many politicians' pockets are lined with money from Big Pharma.

I subscribe to Hulu Live TV and something I have noticed that is happening more and more is when Hulu, that I am paying for, will for the most part play their own ads instead of what the network is advertising. As mentioned elsewhere you can tell the difference because of the yellow "Ad" icon in the top right corner. Just the other day an ad for life insurance appeared momentarily before the Hulu ads started.
And then the ads are played more than once. For example they will show the same ESPN 30 second ad back to back to back. And show the same group of three or four ads for the entire day on the same channel. If I switch channels, a different set of three or four ads during every break. And these ads aren't for the usual products but more of PSA ads directed to specific groups of people. For example, all summer long it was encouraging people to get the facts and go out and vote. This played all summer and stopped at the end of the year. Um, 2025 wasn't a major election year.
Oh well, it is what it is.

Pretty tired of Limu Emu and Doug. I'm not sure how some add campaigns go on for as long as they do, when it was never clever or entertaining to start with.


Adds during streaming is so bad to begin with. How did that start? Streaming was add free. Then they made it an upcharge to be able to watch without commercials.

You aren't kidding. they think that flooding the market with that clown and Emu brings attention. Yeah it does. telling me to never even consider Liberty for insurance. How many years are the going to keep this boring unfunny commercial idea going?

Unfortunately, many years ago studies proved that the ads you hate are more effective than the ones you like or the ones you feel neutral towards. It seems that the louder, the more repetitive, the more obnoxious the ad, the more stuff it sells. And it's been that way for a very long time.

they can stick that study. if I am annoyed by an ad I will be damned if i ever purchase their product.

So very tired of all the med adds that list enough side effects to choke a horse. Seems like the side effects are worse than the original problem. Almost as bad as we can cure your pimples, but you will end up with anal leakage. Enough please.

For sure! Some are so horrific you wonder if it’s real.

I don't doubt it. But it is despairing. I was single digits in the 50s. I was taught, "We will never buy anything advertised on TV." I've added "...advertised by someone who rings the doorbell." I'd rather research, pay more, and know it was my decision, and, of course, mostly go without.

I'll add this, too. My wife and I watch Jeopardy. They recently added a small advertising insert while going through the categories. Hey, and this one: When did BY start having ads? I'm watching some now... AARP... NASCAR on FOX... Norton... on.com (don't know what that is)... You get the idea... Oh, there's Constant Contack... and ProActiv... and The Pennisula -Beijing, hotel I guess... And... San Diego... I'll stop... Oh, wait, I think I'm here to read and write about UConn WBB... : )
