I read an article about this and while it was promising, the sample size was 1. If CTE can eventually be legit diagnosed in people (and for a reasonable price), football is going to be in a world of hurt.

It mentions how within 5 years, they expect to have a easy test (like an MRI) to determine CTE among the living as if it was a tumor.
