For anyone who's interested ...

I've been calculating an RPI for high school field hockey in CT. As the playoffs begin, here it is:

Based on this, some expectations for future semifinal matchups
Class S: Lewis Mills vs Killingly and Stonington vs Granby
Class M: Wilton vs Lauralton and Hand/New Canaan vs Avon
Class L: too hard to guess semis, I'll only guess Glastonbury vs Darien in the final

Notice that Darien is second. They have some amazing girls teams often playing much bigger schools. The Volleyball team since 2001 is 312-9. And since the beginning (1982 thru 2013) are 626-85. This year they are 19-0 going into the league championship game. Fantastic coach.

We have a good game here in PA on Saturday for the District 3 championship. Lower Dauphin, ranked #6 nationally, vs Palmyra, ranked #7 nationally. The schools are in the Mid Penn Conference, Keystone Division. The teams have 1 loss each, to each other of course. State playoffs begin next week.

Thanks vowelguy, I coached 8 years of FH at East Lyme HS, 3 as head coach! Love the sport!

Also note 8 teams from the FCIAC. A super tough field hockey conference. Congrats to Trumbull who also competes in the FCIAC and made the field hockey states this year after winning only one game last year!

Interesting. The thing that makes CT RPIs not very meaningful is that teams play most of their games in-conference. The FCIAC is by far the best league but their teams knock off each other. Over the past 8 years, this is what has happened in Class L and Class M in the state tournament:

L - FCIAC 6 titles, rest of state 2
M - FCIAC 8 titles, rest of state 0

I think it's a safe bet to pick teams from that league to win any game that appears to be competitive.

The RPI picks holding up so far!
Even in class L, which I wimped out on predicting, the RPI held form with Glastonbury, Cheshire, Darien, and new Milford making the semis.

RPI went 6-0 in the semis, setting up finals of

#1 Glastonbury v #2 Darien**
#3 Hand v #5 Wilton**
#9 Granby^ v #13 Lewis Mills

** defending champ
^ runner up last year
