Creighton just closed out a 72-70 comeback win over Georgetown; a game in which they once trailed by 12.
IMHO, what made the victory all the more impressive was that they not only had to overcome a tough and relentless Hota squad but also a mind-bogglingly bad performance by the refs.
I really didn't have a stake in who would win the game, but, just in the 4th quarter, there was a succession of three egregious calls (all against Creighton) which had Coach Flannery and the announcers all losing their minds (thank you FS2 for providing replays).
I know that the Big East doesn't currently have the stature of some of the other league tournaments that are occurring at the same time (& there is not an infinite supply of good referees), but there should still be some standards for officials. Just my opinion...

I didn’t see the game, but looking at the play by play the refs gave Creighton two free throws to win the game with 4 seconds left. Payback for the bad calls earlier in the game? With 4 seconds left shouldn’t they have let the game go to overtime?

I found the game quite entertaining, in spite of the refs' poor calls. Mostly it was a reminder of what a balanced league it would be competitively for everyone else if UConn could somehow make the desired move elsewhere.

Of interest to me was watching a trio of longtime Big East standouts who are in the same league but not in the same league with Paige and Sarah, if you know what I mean.

Creighton's Morgan Maly and Lauren Jensen just went over 2,000 career points each and scored 20+ apiece tonight to snatch victory from the apparent jaws of early elimination.

Georgetown's tenacious Kelsey Ransom, who's used to being regularly shut down by the Huskies, nevertheless showed again why she's otherwise been such a good player for the Hoyas. She had 20 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in a valiant effort, the final one of her career. In case you hadn't noticed, Kelsey had 36 points Friday to nearly single-handedly lift G'town past Providence, 58-56. She won't be, but Kelsey should be on the all-tournament team for those two games.

I'll miss all three of those players next season. Good luck to them, wherever they might venture.

Just to put it into context, Creighton and G'Town encourage passing and team offense, so they don't typically have high scorers. So it's especially impressive that these three have reached 2,000 pts. And for further context, they've done in 5 seasons what Paige accomplished in ~3.

That call was a real foul. Why, with 6 seconds left in the game, would the GT player do that????

That is correct, it was a stupid foul by Georgetown. Creighton was a couple of seconds away from hoisting a Hail Mary low probability shot at the buzzer. After the fact the player realized what a mistake she had made.

Anyway that doesn't take away from bad calls earlier, but if I were Creighton i don't think there is any cause for celebration. That was an ugly win against a team they should have beaten with ease.

Creighton’s win is important for UConn. Hopefully, the Bluejays win again today and face off against UConn tomorrow in the championship game. Assuming UConn wins that game, it represents another Quad 1 win for the Huskies and just might give the Selection Committee one more thing to think about when they seed the Big Dance.

Having said that, with ND’s loss yesterday to Duke, I think the Irish now drop behind UConn in seeding the tournament. At the same time, the 4 favorites all advanced to their respective conference championship games in the SEC & Big Ten, which likely means that TX, SC, USC & UCLA will be the top 4 seeds overall in some order, once the dust settles.

We all know that even when the season is down to the last three games for all involved (i.e., known as the NCAA semis) and therefore there is a glut of officials and you presumably have the best of the best out there, you can still have agonizingly puzzling calls in the last seconds of a tight game. Like an illegal screen.

Haney has managed to make Georgetown a tough conference team of late. He deserves some credit for this. I wonder if something similar is happening (finally) at Xavier. Seton Hall stumbled against them and pulled out an “ugly win.” But the Xavier players believed in themselves. I have to respect that.

Yeah, there were two fouls on Creighton of a player just standing there and I broke my voice screaming at the calls, and one of the announcers was professionally perplexed.

Seton Hall won on the foul line: 21 out of 26 to Xavier's 2 out of 4!!

Creighton’s win is also important for seton hall. It gives them a chance to improve their own at-large candidacy. I don’t think they should be in the big tournament either way. But crème does have them as one of the first teams out.

About Creighton and the BIG DANCE. Not only that UCONN, see above,
gets a Quad 1 win, but... I don't think that GENO will run up the score
against the BLUEJAYS, previous wins by 11 and 19 against the Huskies (assuming they are both in the finals). A relatively
close game against UCONN may give Jim Flannery and Creighton a
better seeding in the NCAAs and a chance win a game or two like
two (3?) years ago. GO BIG EAST!! Go Morgan M., Lauren J.,
and Molly M., etc., etc.!!

Yes, but on any given night, in any given game, these things happen...
less we forget N.D. in South Bend, and TENN, in Tenn. This is a
time of SURVIVE and ADVANCE. I'm not into "pretty" at this time
of year: W, W, W, W, W, W, W, W ...... Count up those Ws!!!

It was a good call, the G'town player literally grabbed the Crieghton player with two hands (for no apparent reason) as the Creighton player was near mid court

But but but... style points don't matter! ;)

I'm with you - stinker of a game for Creighton. They better take a hard look in the mirror if they don't want to get bounced today...
