OT: Cooley Suspended from Georgetown

Well it didn’t go away quietly today. Was on national news with NBC both morning and night. Of course it is the whole “hit a kid” thing that is keeping it alive.

Interesting. 40 years ago, Bobby Knight got suspended one game for throwing a chair on the court. Apparently that’s 1/3 as bad as hitting a little kid in the face with a water bottle.
 
My take may be a little different. I get the bottle was empty, and his throw was way off, but you still just can't haul off and throw something in the crowd.
Calhoun was suspended 3 games for 'failure to create an atmosphere of compliance". I don't care who he hit, he should be gone for 5 games. For his sake and Georgetown's sake, I hope it was a fan, because he opened them up to a potential lawsuit. It is not a good look.
Finally, no one is commenting on the throw itself. Look where his eyes are and where the bottle goes. I would say Cooley throws like a girl, but after watching it a few times, that would be really insulting to half the population.

He was pissed off because his team played like crap and he took out his anger in a childish way. It’s the same reason I will only play golf once with someone who throws his clubs.

It's complicated ... but here's a response - it isn’t what you throw, it’s how well you throw it

Accuracy = leadership
Errant release = enhanced penalties

Also worth noting: the chair incident occurred in a closed economic ecosystem of tax-paying adults who buy courtside tickets, drink beer, and stimulate local GDP.

The water bottle incident involved a minor who, respectfully, does not yet contribute to payroll taxes, consumer spending, or NIL collectives.

Different risk profile. Different actuarial tables.

Bottom line: if you’re going to lose your temper courtside, do it with veteran-level mechanics and proper audience selection

I remember playing at Crestbrook Gofl Course in Watertown, CT. I think it is the 6th hole now, but it used to be part of the back nine before they switched. It's a par 5 with a little creek in the middle and a cluster of woods to the right. My friend hit a ball down there and there people up on the green so I went into the cluster of trees to look for balls. I found 4 broken clubs, including one partly wrapped around a tree. I would loved to have known the story behind that.

The article said Cooley knows the family.

I'll say this again, if the kid or his mom weren't hurt what exactly is the lawsuit? You have to show some kind of loss or pain and suffering. Assault? You have to show it was intentional. Highly doubt Cooley was trying to hit the kid with the bottle because he wanted to hurt him.

It's a bad look and Cooley deserves to be suspended and or fined. But sued? For what? For being a hot head?

Reckless endangerment?
Kid cowers when he sees a water bottle.
Kid is now afraid to leave the house.
Mother has to hire staff to stay with the kid when she's not home.
BUT, since they were in the second row, they know somebody who knows somebody, so this will end with no trauma and the woman will get two tickets to every home game for the next two seasons.............

This sounds as bad as Brian Walshe's lame defense that he panicked when his wife died in her sleep and he chopped up her body and disposed of it in multiple locations in Eastern Massachusetts. Maybe the mother should hire Brian Walshe's attorney. 😂

I remember the time Coach Calhoun took chewing gum out of his mouth and threw it across the court as play moved on up the other end. No one was hit or was their a target and the boy under the basket, who wipes up sweat from the floor, quickly removed the ball of gum - end if story.

Not true!

That is not at all "end if story". I was at that game, gave the guy $10 for that piece of, now legendary, ABC guy from the mouth of the legendary Jim Calhoon, spat out and hurled, in legendary fashion, across the court, retrieved, and hermetically sealed in a custom fashioned lucite box in an inert nitrogen atmosphere, and in a climate controlled atmosphere, protected from UV radiation....

What am I bid?

You must not deal with lawyers these days. They will take it on contingency build a case against Cooley and Georgetown and get a settlement.

My kid backed into a parked car. Her foot wasn’t even on the gas. She was just coasting and tapped his bumper. He sued my carrier for 25,000 and got it for “bodily injury”.

Whoever got hit with that bottle and however it happened, a check is getting cut.
 
Problem is that Cooley decided to participate in an unauthorized 'feat of strength'...but it was three days too early...

Signs the bottle with the profuse apology. 2 year courtside seats. Bottle mounted on the signed chunk of expensive exotic wood. Authentification package, estimated value...$???? ? ....$????? ?
