My most sincere congratulations to all the graduates of the University of Connecticut that attended Commencement today. What a beautiful day today. Commencement was absolutely wonderful. Today, my girlfriend graduated with a B.S in Bio after four wonderful years at Storrs. It was a wonderful day and a perfect way to celebrate Mothers Day with her family and my mother who also attended. The campus looked so beautiful under the bright sunny blue sky with the endless patches of grass
I'm really going to miss this place. If there is a second home for me besides Stony Brook, it would definitely be the University of Connecticut. I attended the 12:30 Ceremony at the Gampel. I can tell you that Basketball was a centerpiece of graduation day despite all the formalities. Its undeniable how much has College Basketball unified this great community.... and just when I thought it couldn't get any better: Shabazz Napier was the last name called and pretty much received a standing ovation. The kid captivated the hearts of the community and we all got so loud that it almost felt like a basketball game. He will definitely be in our hearts forever. I never took the time before, but today I took a ton of the pictures of all the banners. It was the first time I took a serious look at the banners and I was impressed. The dominance of College Basketball the past decades is without a doubt. I also counted 20 straight Sweet-16 appearances for the Women (a fun fact I wasn't aware of)... I was initially surprised not to see the 2014 banners there until I remembered they usually get unveiled the follow up season
We walked around the entire campus, took picture in the lake next to Chemistry building and attended a small reception in the Biology building. Overall, it was a great day and we finished our walk at the Dairy Bar for one last time.
I had so many emotions as I left UConn. I felt like a part of my youth was left behind. I'm no longer directly attached to my college years which I loved so much, but I feel like no one will ever take that away from me. It hurts closing this chapter, but I guess is part of life
My best wishes to the graduates.... and always remember: StudentsToday, Huskies Forever!
