Xavier just released their non-conference schedule.

From Xavier Musketeers
XU announced the 2023-24 men’s basketball non-conference regular season schedule, which opens with a Nov. 6 date against Robert Morris. There will be no public exhibition games this season, only a pair of closed scrimmages.

The 11-game regular season slate includes eight home games at Cintas Center highlighted by a Friday, Dec. 1 game against Houston, a 2023 NCAA Sweet 16 team, in the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle and the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout against Cincinnati on Saturday, Dec. 9. There are three Friday games and two Saturday games on the eight-game non-conference home schedule.

Xavier’s possible non-conference opponents include five teams that made 2023 postseason NCAA or NIT play. In addition to Houston (NCAA) and UC (NIT), Xavier visits Purdue (NCAA) on Monday, Nov. 13 for a Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup and could face 2023 NCAA runner-up San Diego State or 2023 NCAA Second Round team St. Mary’s in the Continental Tire Main Event in Las Vegas in November.

The tough non-conference tests will help XU prepare for 12 BIG EAST regular season games against teams that made 2023 postseason play, including home-and-away tilts against UConn (NCAA Champion), Creighton (NCAA Elite Eight), Marquette (NCAA Second Round), Providence (NCAA), Villanova (NIT) and Seton Hall (NIT).

Monday, Nov. 6 Robert Morris

Friday, Nov. 10 Jacksonville

Monday, Nov. 13 at Purdue (Gavitt Tipoff Games)

Friday, Nov. 17 Continental Tire Main Event in Las Vegas

(San Diego State, St. Mary’s or Washington)

Sunday, Nov. 19 Continental Tire Main Event in Las Vegas

(San Diego State, St. Mary’s or Washington)

Friday, Nov. 24 Bryant

Monday, Nov. 27 Oakland

Friday, Dec. 1 Houston (BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle)

Tuesday, Dec. 5 Delaware

Saturday, Dec. 9 Cincinnati (Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout)

Saturday, Dec. 16 Winthrop

Would love for us to get our schedule out early for once. Going to be a busy fall, would love to get ahead of it

Cooley also has the unenviable task of reviving interest from the fanbase. Best way to do that is to get wins, plain and simple. They won't go 11-0 there, but the fans may start to feel better if they can beat up on most of those mid-majors. It's an understandable schedule for Year 1, but won't fly for Year 2 if Year 1 is even a modest improvement from the last two years.

Much lighter than last year's gauntlet non con.

The early season tourney is in KC with Boston College, Colorado State, and Loyola Chicago pretty meh.

Iowa at home will be decent local drama, and at Oklahoma State will be fun and that's a tough venue.

The clear highlight is Bama coming to Omaha. That should be a lot of fun. There is a running joke in the Bama basketball circle that we are their biggest rival after we beat them in a very ugly first round tourney game in 2012.

This is a pretty strong schedule:
