Arkansas tennis team plays Tennessee State six times in one day

To become eligible for the NCAA women's crown Arkansas needed a season record of at least .500. They
finished the SEC conference tourney at 10-16.
So.... they played Tenn. State 6 times...in ONE day....winning all 6 times.

They are now at least eligible. You are on the selection committee...do you say yes or no?

Personally, I would take a pass on them. Seems to be stretching the confines of sportsmanship there.

And aren't there rules about playing x amount of games in a day? week?

Bigger question is why would Tennessee State subject themselves to that type of humiliation?

And Arkansas barely won the last match 4-3. If they had lost, would they have played Tennessee State two more times?

There used to be a rule on number of matches (two, maybe three/day) and a mandatory one hour rest period between matches. With players allowed to play both singles and double, the logistics would be nearly impossible.

This, and when I coached a season's schedule had to be submitted prior to the start of a season, specifically to address padding a schedule.

Bottom line: There has to be more to this than was in the article.

There is no way I'd allow post season.

According to an article in the Tennessean, the coach indicated that it was a great opportunity for their team to play against a better caliber opponent and they received $15k from Arkansas for the privilege of getting beaten 6 straight times.

It appears to be great for the school making the $15 k, and possibly for the coach making the NCAA tournament. But the players playing up to 12 matches in a day - no way.

Whoever thought this up should be fired, and shunned by all other schools. A 10-16 record means you suck. Scamming your way into the tournament just to say you made the tournament - pathetic.

Update: The Arkansas coach was fired shortly after these matches. He had been there
15 years and had a good record overall.

The Tenn. State coach???
