OT: Chiney Ogwumike Has Microfracture Surgery

Lol.... I have a question. Doesn't the ogwumika sisters have another sister in Texas playing high school basketball that is pretty decent?

"Pretty decent" is in the eye of the beholder. The younger Ogwumike sister was not blessed with the height of her older sisters. She is listed at 5 feet 9 Inches. She was not a top 100-rated recruit and signed with Pepperdine. Pretty sure Pepperdine is glad to have her, but also fairly sure she was not on any top 15 rated team’s radar.

With Chiney going down Cecilia will be getting more minutes and experience.
Which leads me to a few questions:

1. How can Cecilia maintain her NCAA eligibility and play with professionals as stated in this article?

2. Is this same opportunity (ability to play with professionals in one or Europe’s top pro leagues & maintain NCAA eligibility) available to American HS or college students? Specifically, I am thinking of Courtney Ekmark (HS Senior year where she sat out) and Diamond Deshields (this year her transfer year waiting to play for the evil empire).

I looked in vain for any real description of the "injury" that produced the surgery. The best of the sorry lot: " Ogwumike, 22, the top overall pick in the 2014 draft, had a small lesion in her articular cartilage. Microfracture involves the setting of a cartilage "matrix" from a donor (i.e., a cadaver) into the lesion, to promote the growth of new cartilage that more closely approximates the natural material (hyaline cartilage). Says nothing. The articular cartilage of the right knee covers a lot of ground. To the "small lesion" part of it I say Horse Puckies. As we know from Morgan's experience, this is a procedure on the cutting edge and success is not assured. I wish her the best in the surgery and recovery.
