OT: CCSU in FCS Playoffs

Can UConn legit compete for a MBB National Championship again? Sure, but the odds are a lot longer without Calhoun and the Big East.

Calhoun was gone and so was the Big East when we won our last one, so that's an invalid statement.

Fact is football, that potential success of it, is becoming the driving force of MBB success, unfortunately. FBS level football is so "what have you done for me lately?" that our lack of success on the field over 7 seasons now, gets hindered more by a fan base that is more "what have you done for me lately" itself.
We've been spoiled rotten by the success of MBB & WBB over the last 20 plus years. Fact. Creates impatient fans for football. Unfortunately, we had an AD that didn't have a clue about football. Didn't help one bit.
I say we be a little more patient. We got this far, and we've had success. We have a coach with a clue again, which is half the battle.

Game day for CCSU -- 2 PM on ESPN3.

Line is UNH -9.5. Last two tournaments have seen NEC teams first round games to CAA teams by 3 and by 10. Whether CCSU can keep it that close without their QB remains to be seen.

Go Blue Devils!

Watching this on the second screen. Two tipped ball INTs killing CCSUs offense. 0-0 12 minutes left 2nd

7-0 at the half. CCSU's defense playing well. The offense has moved the ball at times but a tipped interception inside the 10 was a killer on the first drive and a sack on the final knocked them out of range for a long FG.

CCSU defense playing very well.. backup QB got injured and they've been forced to use a RB back there (rather than burning the redshirt of a true freshman) the results haven't been pretty, one pick, one fumble trying to slide. Still 7-0 but UNH with the ball deep in CCSU territory with under 2 minutes to go in the game.

Did they burn that kids redshirt?

No, they didn't. They were struggling all game with the backup QB Tanner Kingsley (Beacon Falls, Conn.), but IMO no excuse for the coaches to not have a 3rd QB ready to go. What if that injury happened in the first quarter?

Using Drew Jean-Guillaume (Charlton, MA), who had some HS QB experience, behind center was a huge mistake. He wasn't prepared for that and it was a very poor decision by the coaches.

They finally went to Tyshaun James (Middletown, Conn.) at QB in the last series but it was too late by then and he didn't attempt a pass. James is playing WR at Central this year as a Frosh, but was a QB last season in high school.

They didn't burn the redshirt on Frosh QB Edison Galan (Manchester, Conn.). Coach Rossomando is quoted as saying he didn't want to burn the redshirt and Galan "wasn't ready" IMO - poor preparation and planning on the coaches. They basically threw in the towel that 4th quarter because they didn't know what to do. They didn't have a backup plan for the backup.

The team certainly made it fair share of mistakes and penalties, so it is not like they had the game in the bag, but I think the coaches failed with poor decisions late in the game down by just 7 points. Why did they have a 47-yard FG attempt that was well out of the kicker's range? And why use your #2 RB as replacement for the starting QB in the wildcat?
