It seems that sports journalists perpetually get mixed up about "reins" and "reigns," usually using the latter term mistakenly.

With all the excitement in Washington today, some news people are uncertain about "capital" vs. "capitol."

Let me help clear it up because it's really simple.

Washington, D.C., is the home of our nation's capital. The building that houses the legislative branch is the Capitol Building. It sits, logically, on Capitol Hill and is guarded (today, courageously and efficiently) by Capitol Police.

Similar usages prevail in places like Hartford.

Now, when you read an errant usage, simply say "Gothca!" then sigh and call it a day.
