We met Thelma Stoner in Viv's first or 2nd year, at an in-season tourney banquet RU was hosting where we were serving as fan "hosts" for one of the visiting teams (Howard, FWIW). Mrs. Stoner was talking to the small group of fans (all "hosts") that were there, holding forth on the importance of good marketing and developing schemes to get the fannies in the seats. She was quite fascinating and equally entertaining in the couple of other encounters where we met her (a fan banquet, a road game behind the bench).

She has been ill on and off for a number of years, taking a turn for the worse some time during the season; they commented that she was in hospice care on one of the TV games I saw.

We feel very badly for CVS, as the situation has made what has not been a smooth season even rougher, I'm sure. Our thoughts and prayers are also with her family.

Mrs Stoner had to have lived her life quite proud of her six children's accomplishments. Like Loretta Lynn, Coach Stringer is a coal miner's daughter.
