I saw him at an FSU game in 1989. Lee Corso was his teammate and roommate when they played for FSU in the 1950's. Burt's CFB career was cut short due to injury.

"White Lightening" was his first big hit and still by far his best movie and it made him a star. Inspired all the later good ole boy movies, Smokey and the Bandit, etc.

The couple of times that I listened to him at Nole functions, he was funny, humble, and wry. He seemed to know who he was and was comfortable with that.

Like many of our sports icons, it has been painful to watch he and Lee Corso grow old....the last time Burt walked to midfield, he looked very old and halting.

In contrast, that dadgum Bobby is comparitively spry and shot his age last year.

I remember seeing "Smokey and the Bandit" in 1977 at a theater in White Plains, NY. I was 15. It changed my life.

I wanted to be Burt Reynolds, mainly because I wanted to be with Sally Field.

A story I heard was Reynolds got fired from Gunsmoke because he couldn't act at the same time Rawhide ended. They said Clint Eastwood's neck was too skinny. Reynolds said to Eastwood, "I don't know what you're going to do but I'm gonna take some acting lessons"
