I didn't hear the quote, only read it some weeks ago in a source I've forgotten.

During a practice CD does something really well and someone on the court went "Oooh!". To which CD replied (presumably dripping sarcasm) "What do you mean Oooh, I used to be really good!" Kind of sad really. Something us older folks who have played sports since being kids can relate to.

I still hit a tennis ball most days with a guy my age but on Sundays I hit with a group that are mostly in their 20s to early 30s. They are much better than I am but I can get the ball back just enough that they tolerate the old guy. However, with the best of intensions, one or another of them will occasionally praise something I've done that to me is not all that great, like the bar is set such that success is not actually dying on the court. I don't say anything but "Thanks" but what I feel is "What do you mean Oooh, I used to be a whole lot better that!"

Get used to it. It’s tough getting older.

Caroline Ducharme is the one who said it. (" I used to be really good" ...or words to that effect). And she was right on.
