I am chaperoning my daughter and three friends for a concert at the Foxwoods MGM Grand Theater tomorrow night and need to kill around one and a half to two hours while they are at the show. I haven't been to Foxwoods in probably 10-15 years and have no idea what is there. Just took a glance at the eating/drinking spots and nothing is jumping out at me. I'm not much on gambling and am just looking for a place with decent food (high-end or casual) where I can sit at a bar, grab a meal and watch some hoops. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I watched games when I couldn't get cable at Foxwoods. They have a room I believe is called Race Brook. It is off the original casino.
They have a bar where you can order drinks and food and watch games. My trick was that if you played the slots along the bar, you could drink free. So, play $1o.oo in the slots order a couple of beers and some food and watch the games. Once watched the NBA draft there. If you get lucky maybe a game will be on a big screen. Watched Giant game there. No one bothers you.
Cedars has a nice bar menu and I believe you can pick up a game on TV. Remember it should be crowded.

Probably the worst kept secret in the gaming industry.

Here's a few things you may not have thought of.
1) The OP is not a gambler.
2) By law, the bartenders are only allowed to take your order once every 20 minutes, if you are "playing." You may get a cool waitstaff who does it more often, but more often than not you have to tip a little more.
3) A couple beers cost about $10.00 + tip. So whether you are paying for the beers or gambling it away, that is still $10 out of your pocket. One way or another, nothing you get at a casino is ever free.

Yup, you know.

There is nothing " free" at the casino. The amount of " free drinks you get while gaming is commiserate with how much money you are gambling. Play cheap slots and you may see a waitress once every 90 minutes. Play high limit table games and they will be on your arm every second. It is cheaper to pay for your drinks if you are not about playing.

lol at people who drop 500 at craps table but feel good about their 3 " free drinks"

Can't speak for the food but High Rollers will have all the TV's on the tournament and a decent tap list.

Blackjack table. $25 min. Don't bother with the people that stay on 14 vs a 10 or hit a 14 against a 6.

It's not a trick personal to any one individual if everyone who even semi regularly goes to a casino knows about it. It's like me saying that my trick is to split aces.

I think it's called the Atrium. it's a square bar with a few tv's. pretty casual bar. they will prolly have a live band too.

The trick was that I wasn't there gamble or drink. I was there to watch television and eat. Do you watch television while you play blackjack?.

Sometimes but I rarely play blackjack at casinos anymore. I'm not a good card counter. I've left the building with more money than I arrived in the last 7 times in the poker room and there are TVs hanging in there.

Penny slots aren't really penny slots and they have the worst vig in the casino. If the OP doesn't like to gamble he is better off finding a bar with a TV and paying for his drinks. Race Book probably makes the most sense.

So where did 8893 end up?
In my recliner. Mrs. 8893 announced in mid-afternoon that she wanted to take them and I did not protest. Instead, I promptly cracked a beer in celebration and enjoyed the games at home.

I sent her to David Burke, because that would have been my first stop to check out, but she was turned off by the prices and selection--she was looking more for a burger than a steak.

She also wasn't concerned about watching any games, so she got a seat at the bar at Al Dente, where she apparently enjoyed a reasonably-priced, good glass of wine and some kind of eggplant and chicken entree that she liked but couldn't finish, so I will likely get to taste some of what she brought home today.

Thanks for the suggestions.
