I met one of my sales guys at a "diner" right off 95 in Stamford and I can't recall the name?.......high end diner with a bar although it kept the looks of a 50's/60's diner with the decor and the food was real good although pricey for breakfast. My sales guy had Crab with his egg sandwich.......

A diner off on 372 in Cromwell right off of 91 is also real good for breakfast......another place I met a sales guy but I somehow never remember the names!

and I bet that was 1 of those "diners" with a view in which you had a stack of those hmmmmm $1 singles? Ya know those type of bills sales guys like to take to "diners" on lunch breaks? I bet that leg sandwich woops I meant egg sandwich was delicious? ;)

I can't vouch for the food...why? Because they're not open yet. But I just finished designing the Blue Plate Kitchen, Bishop's Corner, West Hartford. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and a full bar. Modern diner chic, will be pretty cool --high quality operator. Open this fall.

Went to the pantry last week before going to ikea. Needed to build up strength before heading in. Around Hartford, Moes midtown and Quaker Diner. For more upscale brunches tisane and the firebox are really good. Still casual and not crazy expensive just not diners.

Ha Ha..the owner is heavily into the barter system, so whattya got? As for me, I took my fee in cash money. BTW, same guy owns City Steam downtown Hartford.

I like what they did with the outdoor area over there with the stairwell and elevator to the lower level. I wonder how the outdoor dining area will be received, as it mainly overlooks parking lots.

BPK is right on that corner with 54 seats outside under a cool canopy with gas fired heaters...should be a great space. Maximum Beverage right across the way.

Different strokes, I guess... I wasn't blown away by O'Rourkes.

I went to O'rourke's once and thought it was average at best. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Cosmic Omlette in Manchester does a GREAT breakfast.

Prime Time in Pawcatuck and Kitchen Little are two of my favorites. The stuffed French Toast at Prime Time is incredible.

I came into this thread to post:
The Pantry in New Haven

They specialize in breakfast. I don't think you technically can classify it as a "diner".
But it has the best home fries & pancakes I've ever head....and if you believed in the 'wisdom of crowds', there's almost always a line of some sort to get in. It's like the Pepe's of breakfast.

Best pancakes ever

Right off Exit 10 on I84 in Newtown is the Blue Colony Diner. Great breakfasts. And right up Church Hill Road and onto Queen Steet is My Place Restaurant. Fantastic omletes and eggs Benedict!

Solid but boring is fair. Mitchell's has never been on my radar screen, I'll have to keep them in mind.

Seriously, the pancakes at Mitchell's (at least the one in Cromwell) are far and away the best tasting pancakes I've had. It is a tiny little place and it is almost always crowded. The service is usually pretty bad but breakfast there is outstanding.

Didn't mean to knock on the Cromwell Diner. I've never left there disappointed, but I've also never left there blown away.

Definitely not the Bishop's Corner where I grew up.

What is now Crown Supermarket was once Popular Market, and 3 of the 4 corners were empty.

Lord & Taylor, Maxwell Drugs, an early Friendly's, Goldstein's Deli, Dino's Pizza, Tom Troy owning the Shell then Mobil stations, Ty's barbershop anyone?

Not too many people head down that part of Cromwell for food. Mitchell's is still a hidden gem for us.

just to watch the one guy work was something too.... never used guest checks, knew what everyone had when you stepped up to pay, had enough clean dishes and utensils to finish the shift.

That was the thing Duncan, the cook working off verbal orders, used to blow our minds, excellent hash browns as well.

How about The Olympia on the Berlin Tnpk? Always a great stop after a long night of drinking in Hartford.

Cosmic Omlette in Manchester does a GREAT breakfast.

I went there once about 30 minutes before closing time. I get my food about 15 minutes before closing and the place and had emptied. Just as I started eating, they hauled out the big smelly mop bucket and splattered the mop right next to my table. A class joint would wait until everyone was gone, never mind starting next to a customer who is eating. I never went back. Screw 'em.

Is that the where Mar-Shalls used to be? That place had the best hash ever. A real loss when they closed.

Nita's in Willimantic is easily the best place for breakfast in the eastern side of the state. All of the food is homemade, even the applesauce she puts on the stuffed crepes.

I have to go with Norm's Diner in Groton on this one. The place is a tad seedy, but the food can't be beat.
