in Norwalk at our traditional Veterans Day ceremony on November 11.
Actually three extraordinary people will be honored, two of whom have performed sustained and dedicated service to veterans for over 40 years. The third is a non-Norwalker who just had the ribbon cutting that opened a home for homeless female veterans in Bridgeport.
Shalini Madaras lost her son, Nick, in Iraq. Through him, they had launched a program that has resulted in (by now) some 30,000 soccer balls being donated to kids in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shalini turned her grief into action and spent four years to establish the PFC Nicholas A. Madaras Home for homeless female veterans, described briefly above. I invite your attention to www.kickfornick.org where you will learn about the soccer ball project and find a link to "Homes for the Brave." If you access both sites, I can assure you that inspiration awaits.
