Used VRBO in Rome, Barcelona, and Paris--all were great. Used it in Vassalboro, Maine, too, and it was great.

Provided you vet the place and read the reviews, definitely worthwhile.

I found my 2nd apartment in Bangkok on airbnb! A 250 sqm duplex on the top floor with 5 bedrooms 4 bathrooms and 5 balconies in a prime location for about $1700/month. In NYC that'll get you one of the balconies.
and a $2000 month co op fee

I used it in Decatur, GA and it was such a better value over a hotel--got a room for my girlfriend and I for only $45. The person renting out the room was a grad student at Emory. I'd much rather give my money to a struggling grad student than a massive hotel chain. I also used it for my brother's bachelor party in Chicago and we were able to get a place that slept eight guys comfortably--a gorgeous place in a great location. Also, you can get way better amenities and much more room for less money. A $400 per night air bnb is a palace.

This will be my 3rd year hosting at our cottage in Dayville.
It's been great for us and our guests have enjoyed the place, lake and northeast CT location.
The comment before about good communication and honesty is important.

FYI if you ever need to visit Alexander Lake in Dayville.
UCONN students looking to party and rage need not inquire.
