A terrible waste of real acting talent. So sad.

OMG, that is horrible! What a shame. RIP.

I got to see Long Days Journey with him, Vanessa Redgrave, and Brian Dennehy. It was depressing, mesmerizing, and outstanding. So much talent!

[Response to a deleted relevancy grump:]

Well let's see, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was in

Scent of a Woman and When A Man Loves a Woman - Well, the Huskies are women
Twister - When UCONN gets done with an opponent, it usually looks like a twister went through
Next Stop Wonderland - We're pretty much in wonderland every April.
Happiness - Pretty much all season (except a few here on the board)
Flawless - Well that speaks for itself
The Party's Over - Usually around the 10 minute mark of the 1st half for most opponents.
Along Came Polly - Even our walk-on.
Capote - eh....nothing, but he got an Oscar for it
Mission Impossible III - Three-peat baby
Doubt - what all teams feel coming into Gampel or Veterans or Webster or wherever we play
The Master - Need I even say whom?
Hunger Games - Basically UCONN is Katniss and the NCAA tourney is the Hunger Games. May the odds be ever in our favor.

Seems to me this was very germane.

Very saddened and surprised to hear of this yesterday. Very good actor.

It is a shame that Hollywood/the film industry/the entertainment industry is so permeated with drugs. An actor kicks it and is still surrounded by it. One site yesterday had a compilation of remembrance tweets by actors and actresses. The first was by Susan Sarandon, the same actress who about 2 weeks ago, feeling the need for attention, apparently proudly declared she had never attended an awards show when she wasn't stoned! Hoffman as a serious actor with great range. I'll miss him.

Maximilian Schell, also, died over the weekend.

He was one whom I did not recognize in later years, compared to his earlier roles.

Other actors just looked like older versions of their younger selves - Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, and others. But I did not even realize that it was M. Schell who played Tea Leoni's father in "Deep Impact"...!

I remember in an interview once, he said that the Mojave Desert was the most beautiful place
he had ever seen.

This from a guy who grew up in Switzerland!
