OT: ACC Tournament to be Barclays Center

I wish the American could have gotten an agreement to play at the Barclays. That would have been convenient for many.

I figured Barclay's was going to happen eventually. The most the American can do is an occasional one-off in NYC, and if the conference ever improves, I could actually see a lot of people traveling to NYC because the fares are so cheap from cities like Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Cincinnati, Orlando, Tampa (yes, I checked, it's $250 RT from these cities).

The only thing that I like about the BET is that a mid major has the Garden, and The ACC wants it, and can't have it.

LOL, at the schools listed traveling well. They didn't travel to the BET other than Pitt and Syracuse.

The ACC will have no trouble filling that arena up with 15 schools. But no one will be attending the Wed. afternoon BC vs. Wake Forest game. Let's not kid ourselves.

If Maryland had not bolted for the B1G, I believe that the ACC would have made DC it's new base.

That said, money talks. If attendance at MSG is below expectations for the NBET and if the B1G does have an interest in NYC, that air tight contract will deflate quickly. I can see the NBET being moved to the Rock in Newark or Comcast in Philly.

Don't underestimate the size of Dolan's (president of MSG) ego in this equation. No way he takes being one upped by Barclay's laying down. The only realistic counter move for him is the B1G.

Since it's a long contract, I'm sure they can jack up the price to assuage his ego. You may be right. Nonetheless, the BE will be committing suicide if it doesn't foot the bill.

Nothing against Hartford; but, it's too far east for the rest of the American and the XL won't be done with it's facelift by March of 2015. Only way Hartford gets it is if the American is trying to keep UConn in the league at that point (can only hope). Atlantic City has a decent arena; but, it's about the same as the XL, except smaller, and I am not sure the draw would be any good as it is only drivable from UConn and Temple. Plus, Atlantic City in March can be spring like or brutally cold. Thus, I say Memphis unless the attendance drop off is significant for the semi's and final due to Memphis losing. Then, it would be Orlando.

I would also vote for Orlando. The conference tournament should be a warm up for the NCAA tournament and playing the games at the civic center could actually hurt uconn, you need to be able to win in a hostile environment.

I agree. There would be a nice showing of UConn fans in Orlando as well. Between Memphis/Orlando I bet more people would plan mini-family getaways to see the tournament in Orlando, due to all the theme parks you can also visit if your team loses....

hartford is fine, people can visit the city and or see a big east game, go to boston, go to the casinos, etc... i think hartford or philly would be good
