OT: 4/20 Songs

Jonathan Edwards, Shanty. "Pass it to me easy, pass it to me slow, take time out a little before you let it go, gonna sit around the shanty and put a good buzz on".

Rudy's in NYC is (was) a bar/hangout on the lower west side. In later years the "pro's" moved further north, but at that time it was around there they were all on the stroll from Greene St to the lower 20's. A Black Cow is an alcoholic drink.
Rudy's is still there, but it's on 9th tween 43/44 with the big pig still there. I lived at 405 West 45th (The Chatsworth) for a few years - a door down from Zanzabar (no longer there) on the NW corner of 45th and 9th and a block north of Rudy's. The song is about booze, drugs, hooking, et al...she starts out "high" in Rudy's and goes downhill from there, just like the relationship.

All of these guys denied this song was about drugs until their very ends, so....

The guy that wrote the lyrics was Peter Yarrow's roommate at Cornell. And he wrote all but the last verse before Peter saw or heard any of it. I'm not sure Peter really wanted to know if the references to puff, drag-in, paper, and sealing wax were related to drugs.

.-.
Hmmm....I think this works. I could never make sense of the lyrics. I remember hearing a long time ago it was about drugs. According to wiki the writer claims it's about the evils of money, but the song was certainly influenced by his use of LSD. So close enough? Fleetwood Mac recorded it previously but Judas Priest totally rocked it. Live version, have to skip forward a minute or so til the music starts.

Oh yea, one last one. Can't believe I didn't start with this one. Lots (lots) of drug references here.

30 Days In The Whole - Humble Pie

OMG, can't believe forgot this one.

Smuggler's Blues - Glenn Frey

This is a cover of a song by a more famous band, but I like this version.

Pretty sure this one is about heroine. Not really obvious from the lyrics but I remember hearing the story behind the song back in the day.

.-.
Was this one already posted? The lyrics are more straight forward on this one, as is the video.

I could have posted the "Restaurant", but this is as good.
