For the season, or his career is done?

Withdrawn from the Institution. According to "UConnFootball"

Withdraws from the school in the middle of a semester? Unless he was flunking his courses, not too bright.

I don't know what's up with the kids we get from the Valley but most seem to flush out. Tinney, Oseicki, Baranowski. Danny O I think is the only one who has stuck.

Add Kuraczea to the list.

Mike Hicks also stayed for 5 years.

Wow. This is very weird news. Like Jimmy said, maybe it was a classroom thing (I guess?). Too bad...

Not trying in any way to speculate on Osiecki, but this does happen with normal students, too, when they are going through mental health issues.

Will keep an open mind on this and just say, good luck Mike. Hope all works out for you, whatever it may be.

I meant Kuraczea not Baranowski...get my big uglies mixed up. Forgot about Hicks. Still, we seem to be only hitting 40% with the valley kids.

I agree. I hope this isn't concussion, MTBI related. The other stuff is an easier fix. Best of luck to him.

Concussions. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with players like Mike. Too bad, the kid could play. I think the entire UConn family, wishes him well in whatever he ends up doing, and it's clear, that concussions are not going to be taken lightly at UConn, and that's a good thing for the players, and their families, and their futures, and how it affects the sport in general, will be interesting at all levels.

Not trying to in any way to speculate on Sean, but this type post happens to normal posters, too, when they are going through mental health issues.

Will keep an open mind.

@desmondconner: According to his father, Sandy, former #UConnFootball FB Mike Osiecki's career is over because of concussions

I'm trying to understand... He left school because of concussions? Why not just leave the team and still get a degree?

The symptoms can be pretty bad. May not be able to get through the classes right now. The thing I hate about the sport - the terrible injuries and this is one of the worst ones.

That's true. Sometimes your vision can be blurred because of concussions. Maybe that's the case. Guess I didn't really think my prior post out well enough.

Hopefully if it's that serious he can correct any medical problems that currently hinder him from finishing classes and re-enroll and finish what he started.

In addition to blurred vision, you can have photo-sensitivity, where even going out in the daytime (or dealing with cars headlights at night) can be painful and trigger headaches.

Concussions affect everyone differently, we all wish him the best.

This^^^ - My HS junior son's best bud has been sidelined for the past 5 weeks post concussion - (his first dcoumented) - just getting back to normal "concentration" level for school. Just cleared to start practicing again - he was basically shut down in all respects the first few weeks (no school, no tv, no videos, no texting, etc...)

No texting?!?! How did he survive?

But seriously, I've seen a few friends recovering and the lack of concentrations/etc is extremely noticeable.
