UConn will go into Baylor as the #1 team in the country, having beaten the defending champs and #1 team in the country by 18 on their court. I don't know that I would describe a UConn win over Baylor as "unexpected."[/QUOTE]

I think I agree. If Baylor beats UConn would be more unexpected. BU has the bigs, but UConn has the guards.

Look at the FG% for the 5 starters, and then ask yourself why Boley is leading the team in FGA. Everybody else is hitting them at a much higher rate, Hebard in particular is just ridiculous. For this team to achieve it's potential, Graves has to reign Boley in. She's essentially replacing Lexi Bando as a 3 point shooting specialist, but Bando didn't chuck it nearly as often. She has to know her place and role on the team.

I would say Baylor has “bigs” but not “the bigs”. Quickness, passing and mobile defense are all in UConn’s favor. UConn can stuff off the guards to double Brown/Cox Andrew make the BU guards hit 3’s if they can. Plus UConn transition is a major advantage. Foul trouble for both teams is a concern and more so for UConn given their lack of depth and they will need Batouly and Irwin.

Yes, the Miss St game becomes more important after today's loss by Oregon. Didn't see this one coming.

Michigan State played a solid game. At times it looked as though Oregon was going to make a come back. Mich was able to hold on. Oregon played a solid game too. Great game.

I'm afraid if history is a guide we will not see Batouly until well into the new year. Frankly I think Kyla has significantly more potential to be of aid to the team going forward.

Oregon does not have the depth they had last year. That makes a big difference when some of the starters are not feeling it and points are hard to come by. Especially for a team like Oregon who relies on their offence. They will not stop other teams from scoring so they have to score a lot to win. I also concur that Boley is too much of a volume shooter. They also needed the younger Sabally this season. Big difference that she is out.

It was a fun game to watch, as others have stated, but when Duckies needed a hoop or two, their guards seemed to disappear. The failed to attack the rim much at all. I was surprised that Sabrina was so weak on offense until the game was nearly over. She’s much better than what I saw today.

You are going to lose a few games giving up 80+ points. Oregon's defense was porous, and couldn't get stops. That is where Oregon needs to improve. Cozorla wasn't much of a penetrator today, which didn't help Oregon. South Dakota State isn't a pushover, so Ducks will need to rebuild their confidence before MSU shows up on their doorstep.

All credit to Michigan State, but there is definitely something amiss with Oregon. The past two seasons Graves used his bench quite liberally, and not having the same options seems to really be hurting them. Graves spoke in the postgame about the team lacking effort on defense and not playing as hungry as Michigan State. That's very troubling if you're an Oregon fan.

And it won't get any easier for Oregon from here. They next head to South Dakota State, which is a very difficult place to win. And looming large is the Mississippi State train.

Another thing I have to wonder is how much the NCAA investigation and announced penalties are affecting the team. At the very least it's gotta be a major distraction.

South Dakota is a team that can match the perimeter shooting.

Miss State will knock those post players around and I don't think they can handle it. I think the Miss State guards are quicker which well help them.

Oregon does not present enough size or athleticism to be a good defensive team. While they have good shooters, several can be stopped by good one on one defense. They also lack the interior size that's necessary to be a top team.

Most of those problems also lay directly on Greaves feet. Now last season he replaced McGwire who though a good miderange shooter, was neither a back to the basket player or a good defender. Still Greaves replaced her with a much better defender but that was only because Sabbally was McGwires offensive superior or at least equal. Given a clear choice between offense and defense Greaves will always chose offense. Giomi, is clearly their best post defender but she never even see's the court even in blowout.

His lack of giving his reserves more playing time last season also was key to the transfers out that is kicking them in their rears now. They have no depth. I thought that they would miss Cazorla's frosh country woman the most. She was a very good point who many thought had a higher ceiling that Carzola. She would have really helped in this game because Garzola was way off. Of course the only reason they miss McGwire is because the younger Sabbally is injured and out this season.
I perceive him as a gimmick coach who does well with certain type of roster, but lacks any out of his own "mental box mindset" ability to adjust. His teams will be able to knock of some really good teams on any given day but they certainly lack the consistency to win it all. Your shots will not always be there, but you defense can still win you games when they are not.
