Pivec joins 1000 point club. OSU briefly grabbed a lead, then Oregon went back on top. 34-30 2 minutes til halftime.
 
What a game!

OSU goes on a run to seize the lead. Oregon responds with a big run to take the lead back.
 
39-35 Oregon at halftime. I thought this was going to be a blowout. My apologies for doubting OSU. Really good game so far.

She’s gotten 3 assists off post entry passes when Hebard has a defender on her back and makes a dribble. Very odd you get an assist for that. She’s done a good job off ball screens with her decision making.
 
This might be the best game I've seen from Oregon State this season, and they've had some good ones. Controlling the tempo of this game, very well connected on offense, giving up nothing easy.

Oregon was up 9 and OSU was in the danger zone, having a hard time getting shots (2 shot clock violations). Have cut it back to 5 now. This is one of those nights where it doesn't look like Slocum is really in the flow of the offense.

I seriously don't know why you're always so down on her. The same could easily be said of Pivec.

Pivec hasn't been shooting much. Slocum was jacking deep 3's without even trying to move the ball around. Rueck keeps sitting her on the bench so I don't think he's real happy w/ her tonight either.


edit--to be fair Goodman is doing way too much dribbling w/out going anywhere; overall just not getting great PG play this half
 
McWilliams passed up an open 3, they settled for a contested shot in the paint as the shot clock was expiring. UO has upped their defensive intensity, OSU's offense has ground to a halt in Q3.
 
Ionescu taking over. She has 21, sticking 3's, Ducks up 10 nearing end of Q3.
 
I don’t understand why Oregon State continues to run the shot clock all the way down? They aren’t getting any good shots.

You and me both. Offense was putrid in Q3.
 
OSU has won the "style battle" by a large margin. They've made this a grinding game instead of a finesse game, which is Oregon's forte. But the difference, surprisingly, is that Oregon's defense has been really stellar, which is supposed to be OSU's forte.

I don't think they're trying to run clock, they're just facing good defense.

Definitely, but there have been a few times they held the ball way out high for 10 seconds or more.
 
Second chance points for UO is also a huge key in this game.

Not discrediting Oregon defense but they’re basically only having to defend 10-15 seconds on those possessions.

Sabrina got knocked in the jaw and looks like she's reeling, Graves calls TO to give her a rest.
 
OSU totally had Oregon walled off for that rebound, but somehow Sabally's long arm gets in there and tips it away. Yet another O board. Just killing them.
 
Grymek has been playing really tough. She's changed some shots, has 10 points on 5-6 shooting.

This is the first game I've watched where I really thought she was a difference maker. I don't think OSU would be staying close without her. She's changed A LOT of shots.
 
Another shot clock violation for OSU. That's at least 3.

UO was up 11, pretty much over but OSU has it down to 7. 2:14 left. Ionescu, Hebard and Sabally have all been big. UO has gotten almost nothing else from the rest of the team but it's been enough. OSU only has 2 starters that have been scoring, plus Goodman and Grymek off the bench. Corosdale M.I.A. again.
 
6-20 3's tonight for OSU. I remember when they were a great shooting team.

Jeez, Ionescu has been huge tonight.
 
77-68 final. Props to OSU for hanging tough.
 
29 points 9 assists for Ionescu, 21 points/11 boards for Hebard, 18 points on 5-7 3's for Sabally.

Slocum led OSU w/ 19 (all but 2 in 2nd half), 14 for McWilliams and 12 each for Goodman and Grymek.

Let's do it again on Monday (hopefully different result).
 
Oregon defense was very impressive in the second half, especially against Slocum who was playing at a high level. I know Ionescu was top dog, but Sabaly was unconscious from 3, and Cazorla made up in defense for her poor shooting night. Really good game; defense was almost as exciting as the offense.. Oregon State brought it tonight. Too bad PAC 12 plays too late for us East Coasters. Would like to see Anigwe in the next game but I need my beauty sleep.
