The Game of the Day. Going to Pick Oregon at home. Sabrina won't let her team lose the game in what will be an electric atmosphere. Its an important game for future NCAA Seeding. If Oregon can win today and Sunday's game at Oregon St, they will be heavily favored to get a #1 Seed. Just think what would happen if UCLA or Stanford got the #1 Seed and they are sent to Portland. Then both Oregon and Oregon St would probably not be in the Portland Oregon Bracket. I would think NCAA and ESPN are hoping that one of the Oregon teams get a #1 or #2 Seed.

Sabrina needs both to finish 50% in Civil War games. I wouldn't bet against it.

Beavs will need to shoot well from distance to pull this game out in Eugene. Ducks will have a huge crowd. Beavs need to keep it close early and limit turnovers. Would love to see an upset. Go Beavs!

Basically we know these teams will split the series, just not sure which game a team wins first. The next game between the two will be easier to pick based on who wins this game...At the moment I am betting on Oregon but rooting for Oregon State...Where are my West/Left Coast colleagues on this? I have Sling Orange all set to go and will be watching-what say you @LoTrader @jonson @nwhoopfan ?

I think that OSU will be okay with a split, but Oregon won't and will be playing its version of "angry" basketball that it has adopted after listening to Taurasi. The Beavs will need big offensive contributions from both Pivec and Slocum to lead the way tonight. Tudor and Goodman have had outstanding scoring games against the Ducks in prior years and hope to regain their shooting touch tonight in Eugene.

I don't think a split is guaranteed. I can't see OSU winning in Eugene, and it might get ugly (like 2 years ago). Hoping for an OSU win in Corvallis, we'll see. I haven't been happy w/ the way the Beavs are playing.

Like the Ducks in both games. Both teams know what is at stake but OSU shouldnt have lost to a team that the Ducks destroyed.

Which Sabally shows up? If it is the one that is aggressive to the basket then there is no one athletically able to hang with her.

it will take a great effort to beat the Ducks by the Beavers. I can see Hebard and Sabally, if they can avoid foul trouble, taking advantage of the Beavers freshman frontline. If one team can get hot and the other stays in their slump from deep anything can happen. I see Oregon bringing the same focus and intensity for each game that they brought to Stanford and their A game is better than the Beavers A game. I feel Sabrina will not want to go winless in Corvallis for her career and will do everything she can to will her team to 2 victories.

Great point. In the Sun Devil's victory over the Beavers last weekend the senior Sun Devil frontcourt made life miserable for the young Beavers. That difference in experience was a major factor in the Sun Devils win.

My confidence intervals for the games are an Oregon win at home from between 5 and 25 points and anything from an OSU by 5 to an Oregon by 15 in Corvallis. If Oregon can top 70 in regulation either game, they win. Beavs haven't shown enough firepower lately, and Ducks defense is much better than last season (to compensate for slight decline in offense)
I think they'll split. It's very hard to beat a good team twice in 3 days, and even more so when it's an intense rivalry game with the 2nd game at Gill. Oregon looks invincible when their shots are falling, but as seen in the losses to Louisville and ASU, they don't always fall and Oregon can't always figure out plan B.

I have a question about the sequencing of the game locations.

Last year the first game in this rivalry was in Eugene and the second game was in Corvallis. To my knowledge, the conference schedulers usually make a point of reversing this sequence year to year. (For example, last year's Territorial Cup was played first in Tucson and then in Tempe; this year the order is reversed.)

Does anyone know why the Pac-12 didn't reverse the sequence of these games this year?

Personally, in a back-to-back against a tough team I would want to try and "steal" a road win in the first game and then allow the energy of the home crowd to help carry my team to the sweep. IMO it's harder to prevent the pendulum from swinging back when game 2 is in a tough road environment.

FWIW, this is the first time since the conference went to 12 teams that the rivalry games have remained in the same hosting order two years in a row, so I assume this was to accommodate some other need.
Did it happen before the conference expanded?

To be honest, those were the days when it was mostly Stanford + 7 dwarfs + Cal & ASU, so I really didn't pay nearly as much attention to the rest of the conference. Those we dark times for Ducks and Beavers WCBB fans.
I've never intently studied the matter, but this is the first time I've noticed in any sport that a home-and-away stays in the same order two years in a row.

Tempe..., Temple is?

In the Arizona rivalry we split the games by month. I suspect scheduling flexibility or lack of leads to the games over a single weekend.

I also agree I'd want to play the first game on the road. In our case having lost our home game in December I think there's a little more pressure on the Sun Devils being on the road. Even with 4 weeks between the two games.

Got my DVR set for both the Arizona/Arizona State game...and for this one. Since I don't get back from bowling until around 10 pm (EST) on Fridays, the Arizona/Arizona State game will just be ending when I get home, and then the Oregon/Oregon State tilt begins. I really want to see both games so will watch them in order...but that also means any commentary I make about the games won't be until both are over.

But, hey...I'm thrilled to finally have access to the Pac 12 networks and to have good quality WBB to view on Friday nights. Sure beats the old days when we were fortunate to have, maybe, one game on TV per week!

These two pairs of teams now constitute the best in-state rivalries in the Pac-12 for now -- and they just happen to be playing all four of their games on the same weekend.

I expect the order was driven by the schedule for Oregon’s men’s game against UCLA on Sunday in Eugene. It’s a nationally televised game, like the women’s game on Sunday and they both had to fit certain tv time slots. They couldn’t both be in Eugene.

Arizona beat ASU in Tempe to start conference play this year.

Hey, UW was good sporadically back in the day. There were some good battles when Giuliana Mendiola and Nicole Powell were in school. A few other good Husky squads too.

Yes, UW had Stanford’s number. I remember attending the game at UW in 1990 and the ONLY game Stanford lost that season was to UW (Stanford went on the win the national championship).

Good start for OSU, but they did that against Stanford too and then faded. 10-2.
