I thought a show-cause penalty was supposedly a high standard for messing up in the NCAA's eyes, but Oregon is getting off light.

Oregon does not receive bowl ban from NCAA, but former coach Chip Kelly given show cause penalty. Only lose 1 scholarship for 2 years

@DanWolken 3m
Chip Kelly got an 18-month show-cause. Oregon loses one scholarship for 2 years. Basically nothing.

Bruce Pearl got a show-cause twice as long as Chip Kelly's for lying about a BBQ.

IINM, the penalty imposed by the NCAA is lighter than the penalty suggested by Oregon themselves.

This isn't a wrist slap, this is a feint...like when my mother used to pretend she was gonna smack me if I didn't go up to bed.

Not to get off topic but Dan Wolken also tweeted "UConn got off very easy." in the middle of tweets about Oregon.

In what planet did UConn get off very easy?

It was a response to UCONNMB beat writer Neil Ostrout saying "Used to take what UConn fans said about the NCAA having it in for Huskies with a grain of salt. After Oregon ruling...maybe they were right."

UConn lost more scholarships in basketball than Oregon will lose in football, with the ratio about twice as high in one year for football as the sum total in hoops. Oregon probably was fined $15, banned from post season football during the month of July, and had recruiters restricted to a 6000 mile radius in their pursuit of players. Oh and the Pac-12 is also gonna pile on like the Big East did with UConn and the BE Tourney. W0rd has it that Oregon is prohibited from participating in the conferences pre season pomp pomp give away day.

UConn got screwed in basketball - plain and simple. It seems that it was a vendetta against Calhoun.

I'm sure that Oregon.....after playing for the National Championship and all of the other BCS Bowl wins/appearances......REALLY regrets cheating now.

You know sometimes the worse thing that can happen is getting away with cheating

I wonder, if Chip Kelly knew that the sanctions would be non-existent, would he have Pete Carrolled out of Eugene?

>>In the wake of the Oregon football program being placed on probation for three years and two scholarships being taken away for recruiting violations, former Ducks and current Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has issued an apology.

"I want to apologize to the University of Oregon, all of its current and former players and their fans," Kelly said. "I accept my share of responsibility for the actions that led to the penalties. As I have I stated before, the NCAA investigation and subsequent ruling had no impact on my decision to leave Oregon for Philadelphia."<<

So there ;):rolleyes: - you buying it?
