Gloomy times fellow yarders, gloomy times. A lot of us are extremely focused on the negative which is completely acceptable after yesterday-the culmination of teetering on the fence of a meltdown for weeks. Shots not falling, rebounds not being grabbed, passes getting stolen, opposing shooters getting left open. Things we had been seeing for troubling 5 minute stretches of games finally mutated into a 40 minute debacle that makes it look like our team is two 15pt loses away from the off season.

However:
  • Let's look at how the AAC tourney lays out for us: Memphis and if we beat them, Cincy.
  • 2 very good very tough teams indeed...also two teams that we beat in 3/4 matchups this year.
  • Yes it is hard to beat a good team 3 straight times and twice on their homecourt but at the very least these are teams we matchup well against and CAN beat.
  • Beat them and meet up with in all likely-hood Louisville. Oooohhhh Louisville. You black and red snake in the grass.
  • Are they better than us? Yes. Have they beaten us by about 50 points so far this year? Yes. Do I think we can beat them coming off two wins vs top 20 teams? Yes. That is a significantly smaller yes. But a yes. How could our boys possibly not be jacked up for that game? If I'm KO I'd show video of two things before the game. Our football team assaulting Teddy Ruxpin and beating Louisville two years ago when no one thought they had a chance and then the second thing. Ohhhhh the second. Montrezl Harrell. Is it Montrez with a silent L or Montrel with a silent Z? I can never remember. Show him posing after every dunk. Running up the court laughing at us. Discarding our big men. Hacking our penetrating guards. And also show him trying to hit a free throw. Tyler and Leon. Those are our two girthiest players and 6'8"-6'10". They have ten fouls. Devote all ten fouls to putting Harrell on the line. I don't mean lightly fouling him. I mean foul him so it's in the back of his mind next time he goes up. Foul him so that maybe he does something foolish and picks up a couple cheapies of his own. Amida really looked like he was trying to be physical with him yesterday and I admire that but he just can't tango with Harrell yet. If Harrell takes 20 free throws maybe he gets 9 points off of them. If he takes 10 dunks he gets 20 points. The only issue here is grabbing his misses.
We have a chance to pick up 3 very quality wins. Right now we are probably a 6 seed. Do that and at 27-7 with an impressive list of wins are resume looks at like a 3 seed in this years tournament.

Sorry for the long post but after a half dozen or so threads with 1000 words talking about the season is over maybe it'll be a nice read.

How could our boys possibly not be jacked up for [an AAC tourni game against Louisville?]
Now Johny. We know that the bully gave you a black eye during the Pledge and knocked your tooth out and gave you an atomic wedgie during lunch, after he ate your lunch, in front of your entire 5th grade class, but we're not giving up on you and we're going to give you a another shot at him during recess, where we think you'll do much better, notwithstanding that he still outweighs you by 40 pounds, shaves, and has been practicing hitting and getting hit from the day he was born until this very day by virtue of his abusive father and brothers . You've just gotta want it more Johny. Aren't you jacked up for that, Johny?

Kick him in the balls.

My optimism:
1) Look where we were 2 years ago
2) Look were we were 1 year ago
3) Look where we are now
4) Look at the recruits in the pipeline now
5) Look at the recruits in the pipeline 1 and 2 years ago.

Not wrighting this year off. I have consistently said that the sweet 16 is a good goal for this team (when some saw a championship and others felt we might fall short of the NIT).
I still feel this team could do that and that would be great progress.

Perfectly put.

I'd also add that both Brimah and Samuel look better than their ranking -- no way there's 100+ freshmen out there better than both. That tells me Ollie has an eye for talent, which in turn gives me hope for Lubin, Prince Ali and any other less-than-hyped prospects we sign.

Totally agree.

I'm surprised so many folks around here are on the ledge.

That tells me Ollie has an eye for talent.

You know, I would bet that many NBA teams would immediately hire him as a Scout for their team. He knows what he wants. We are in great shape going forward, as long as he can close (i.e. sign) recruits.

Here's to hoping. If they aren't furious with themselves for getting turned into a lay-up line, then we have big problems. If we get to see them again, set the tone. A few hard fouls should do it. Don't let Harrell touch the ball without having to cash free throws. Get in their head. Louisville is a stellar 65.4% from the line this year (good for 320th in the country). Make them hit those shots.

Exactly. If you going to get a call for holding your hands over your head, you might as well make a real foul.

Please don't come here with your optimism. We just indored the worst defeat in modern history. We take solise in our ineptitude. We are happy to graffle in our misery. We didn't even watch sportscenter today for fear of seeing that debacle you call a game (just ask mau). Even Dogmania tried to post a disortation earlier and it was gramagically incorrect and even Upstater didn't notice. I can't even finish my shot of Gentleman Jack. Hopefully we get a win on the 13th or it's going to be hell around here.

All valid and extremely well-stated bullet points. I co-sign said optimism!

I know. It's just that I don't like the little graphical emoticons. So I put spaces. : D

Boat show, I agree with everything you wrote especially about the 10 fouls we have to give. I just had that conversation with my son about that very same thing. Foul him and foul him hard, not to injure but to make a statement. I, too, was very disappointed the way the guys played and the jawing with each other. Speaking of jawing good for Samuels.

Louisville fans are a bunch of whiners. They are still whining about Larry Taylor. They whined about the football game they lost to us.
