I do wish that AT's Triple Double achievement got a little more attention. That is historic! When you think about the legends of the women's game that came before AT. What AT did and will probably continue to do as long as she can play. Is historic.

After watching the replay of the Fever/Mercury game, my heart goes out to Colson and McDonald as well as the whole Indiana franchise. They are going through some things with these injuries! Holy smokes!! Now they have to adjust to another point guard and vice versa. With 12-13 games left in the season. Best of luck for the Fever down the stretch.

I don't think they are better without her. But I do believe they are a better team than many give them credit for without her as well. Now with all 3 point guards likely out for the rest season (2 for sure), the Fever is likely going to look more like a more overall talented version of the 2023 team. A competitive team that is hindered by their lack of quality point guard. All these injuries are so heartbreaking.

I was mostly saying it tongue in cheek because I think it’s silly to claim a team is better without their star than with it when the numbers and eye test don’t support it (or at best, very loosely do). With the same logic, one could argue that Minnesota is just as good without Collier since they’re 4-1 in games she’s missed this season which is almost identical to their W-L percentage with her in the lineup. It’s a weak argument to make and is based on discrediting a player rather than highlighting that other players are stepping up. The anti-Clark narrative is effectively the same.


Also, your numbers are wrong, Indy is 8-5 with Clark and 10-9 without. Strictly going on W-L numbers (and point margin), both say Indy is a better team with Clark.

I actually think most acknowledge Indiana has been a very strong team even without Clark in the lineup—McDonald has been getting a lot of deserved love, and Boston/Mitchell/Cunningham have too for their play this season. The latest injuries are particularly brutal since Indiana basically has to implement a brand new PG with just 1/3 of the season to go and there’s no timeline on Clark’s return. PGs have been cursed in Indy this year between these 3 plus Halliburton on the men’s side.

With Indiana’s retooled roster this year, I didn’t think they’d have six or seven losses in the first third of the season, but even when Clark was playing I’m not sure how healthy she was (she missed one of their preseason games to injury as well). At this point she’s missed so much time that it’s hard to fairly assess Indy’s season even if it’s a much weaker record than I expected. I do think not protecting Temi Fagbenle in the expansion draft was a mistake. She’s exactly what they needed to backup Boston. They have enough shooters and didn’t need Dantas for that.

Whether the Fever are better with our without Clark day in day out, I think it’s pretty much a consensus that their ceiling is much higher with her, and with her healthy they’re a threat to beat anyone in a series of any length.
 
I wonder who Indiana will grab if Caitlin is out. Odyssey Sims, Grace Berger (wait a few extra days for her contract with the Wings to expire), and Serena Sundell are the names being thrown around. I doubt they take Sundell because of the experience gap. My bet is on Sims.

My thoughts too were Sims or Berger. I don't know how Sims isn't in the league right now. Her numbers the last two seasons are stellar and for some reason she keeps getting waived.
 
The number of triple doubles this season has suddenly increased dramatically. In addition to AT's streak of them, Allemand also got one.

I believe Sims is out for personal reasons. I'm sure she would have already been picked by another team if she was available.

Hard to criticize a home victory over a road weary squad with two injured PGs. As a coach Nate did exactly what one would hope for. As coach Reeve emphasizes it's extremely important to defend the home court given the challenge of winning on the road.
 
Another glorious night in Ballhalla. Cam Brink got great recognition from the crowd in her first pro game back in the Bay, but what was even more surprising to me was how loud Ballhalla got when they introduced the Stanford WBB team. Great to see that enthusiasm and here's hoping the Ballhalla energy translates to Maples in a few months.

Also, what was up with Plum and her flagrant for kicking Veronica Burton down the stretch? That was so bizarre. But the icing on the cake? The crowd's spontaneous eruption into chants of "BEAT LA." And boy, did we. So thank you for that, Plum, we now have our chant for Sparks home games...

Nice to hear that the Stanford team got a great response. That must have been one hell of a kick for the team.

Didn't see the game, but saw the clip online. Really weird to see as I don't think this is typical of Plum. Personally, I'm surprised she didn't suffer an injury. It looked like she was going to hyper-extend her leg for a brief moment to me.

Regarding Plum, I thought it was an attempt to kick the ball because Burton was going to get by her but it could’ve been a frustration moment too.
 
Indiana with a nice win. Chicago is just really horrible. Just bad basketball all around. Shot selection, spacing, and fundamentals. It is cringeworthy watching them play, sometimes.

Los Angeles/Golden State: The Valkyries are the darlings and must see, to me, of the WNBA this season. Of course, they have two of my favorite WNBA players on their roster (Veronica Burton and Cecilia Zandalasini...Minnesota Lynx connection). Golden State is what is good about the WNBA. No superstars. No million-dollar coach or million-dollar player. Just a solid core of players that are playing hard and playing as one unit.

Just a tremendous, entertaining game. I thought that Golden State played a really savvy game.

As @JellyBean observed Zandalasini was a delight. After Brinks slammed the ball down on a call she signaled for the tea with a huge smile. She was riveting in addition to a still that's admirable she has a charisma that is engaging.

The plum flavor was really bizarre. Barton visibly had to strain to control herself if she walked past the prone Plum.
 
Plum kicking someone does seem really out of character. It seems like she's been more feisty than usual most of this season. More outspoken, she's had a few tirades. I think she's had some frustrations and it's boiled over several times.

Saw a clip of it. Not a good look. Maybe she thought she saw another one of those objects she kicked off the floor recently in the Indiana game...🤪
 
What a wonderful open to a slate of games today in New York. The first quarter was really on point and suggested a rematch for the title as two outstanding coaches match wits. while the second quarter slowed it's clear we're watching the cream of the crop.

Speaking of coaches later today the presumptive COY meets the dark horse COY in the scorching valley of the sun. After 118 on Tuesday the temperature cooled to 112 yesterday. This should be a very interesting game as the second best teams in the respective conferences battle it out. Las Vegas isn't impressed with the million dollar coach making the visiting Deam minus Howard a favorite. I wonder if Nate's hearing footsteps from Las Vegas.. lol

An amazing illustration of the acumen and skill of four-time COat Cheryl Reeves in today's game.

While she doesn't earn the salary of the million dollar coach in Phoenix she certainly does know her way around all aspects of the game.

It's clear that she had targeted DJ Carrington and the wisdom of that pursuit has been on display since DJ joined the team. She was outstanding in the inaugural game for Minnesota and was the difference in today's victory in New York.

Winning on the road is hard which makes this victory over the defending world champions in their home arena all the more impressive.
 
All I gotta say is, How about Them Minnesota Lynx!!?? We go into the Big Apple and shut down the defending champs and we didn't have our best player! This team is dangerous. So much versatility!! Well done, Minnesota. The Drive for Five.
