As I do each year, I glanced at the schedules for the major conferences. My theory has always been that you can get a feel for schedule strength simply by considering the number of OOC games schools schedule against the other BCS schools. While only approximate, as was seen other years, the majority of schools play 2 to 4 OOC games against other major conference foes.
As expected, UConn's 8 opponents fitting that description leads the country and is tied with Duke. Schools with above average quantity of big conference opponents (5 or 6) include Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State from the B1G, Tennessee and Texas A&M from the SEC, Florida State, UNC, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia from the ACC (as well as Duke). Also UCLA and Arizona State from the Pac12; no one from the Big 12 and no one except UConn from the AAC.
Especially poor schedules were noted for Central Florida (AAC) who plays no OOC school from a major conference; Indiana (B1G) playing only lowly Virginia Tech; Mississippi State and Missouri who may play one or none depending on how tourneys they are in go; also Oregon, Utah and potentially Arizona who are only scheduled to play 1, although Arizona is in a tourney where they may meet a 2nd big conference opponent.
Don't claim to know what it means, but I share FWIW.
