I keep reading that Ollie and his staff are only giving 3 scholarships for the 2014 class.

"If Lubin, who seems to have the size UConn needs, is in the fold, the Huskies’ last target from the '14 class would be a point guard." Courant

"The staff still wants two more players from the Class of 2014,"

I don't get it. We have 4 seniors graduating; Niels Giffey, Shabazz Napier, Tyler Olander, Lasan Kromah.

And possibly 1 to 3 leaving pro; Calhoun, Boatright, Deandre

Why aren't we looking for 4 to 6 players in the class? Anybody have any idea why?

If true, could be to save some scholarships for 2015 since there won't be any graduating players the year after (assuming Boatright and Daniels leave after this year).

Im not sold on Boatright jumping to the NBA after the season. I think people who are talking about that are seriously jumping the gun. He has to improve his all around game by a lot to be considered a first round pick. Look how good Shabazz played last season and he wasnt even a guaranteed first round pick.

What are you talking about? We've already given out three. So far for 2014 we likely have:

PG - Samuel
SG - Calhoun, Purvis
SF - Hamilton
PF - Facey, Lubin, Tolksdorf
C - Nolan, Brimah

And then potentially Daniels and Boatright, which would already put us at 11. So Ollie's going to probably sign two more kids in the next six months, wait to see who returns, and give out one or two more next spring during the late signing period if he's not over the limit. Seems like a pretty sensible plan to me.

I'm sure if Devin Robinson wants to commit to UConn the staff isn't going to say no...I don't buy this.

I still think the staff wants a PG (Cassell Jr., Graham, Lyle) and a wing (Robinson, Swift, Dew) this year.

Robinson, Kasongo and Cassell/Lyle/Graham (intriguing here) all still in the fold I'm sure........this seems presumptuous at best

Why are you taking a Courant write-up as gospel for what the staff wants?

Exactly. The Courant's website mentions that Lubin "is the 70th rated player in the class of 2014 according to ESPN". When in fact he has a 70 rating on a scale of 0-100.

If we have 4 leaving, and we only have 2 committed so far for next year (Hamilton & Lubin), it seems like they would take 2 without doubt, never mind the possibility of anyone else leaving.

DD can play like he did against G'town. That's not a 4 year player. 3 years.
He's already a good defender.
