Style definitely benefits Louisville. Reach arounds, reach ins, wrist slaps...those are the primary keys to their defense.
Pitino likes to run this style of defense when he goes to restaurants after hours.

It was horrendously officiated for both teams. Behannan and Dieng were mauled all night on the inside, and Siva was continuously fouled going to the rim; christ, McGary could have easily fouled out about 3 times.

That being said......are they kidding me calling the foul on Burke on that block? Not giving Hancock his 4th and giving it to Harrell?

Clownish officiating. Until they started fouling to extend the game, Michigan held a 10 foul advantage in the game, so they really have no reason to cry or complain.

But the refs made their best attempt to ruin a very entertaining national championship.

Behanan made his last layup with McGary grabbing him in a choke hold around his neck. Should have been his fifth. Amazing they couldn't see that one. The guy isn't jumping off the ground because he has a 250-pound backpack on.

There was only one really poorly officiated game this tournament, and that was when the zebras did everything in their power to get Ohio State into the Final Four. Other than that, the games were called pretty well.

I cannot fathom how you do not think that was a terribly officiated game, starting with the blatant goaltend not called on UL in the first half, the TWO kicked balls on Michigan that were not called in the first half, the the foul attributed to the wrong UL player (shouldve been 4 on Hancock) in the 2nd, the Trey Burke block that wasn't a foul, just to name a few that are indisputably wrong.

Honestly, if I had waited until the game was over, I wouldn't have thought about the officiating much and this thread wouldn't exist. Maybe i would have made a tangential point in another thread about how dreadful they were in the first half, but the game evolved into other story lines.

The sequence when Siva reached in from behind to stop a breakaway with no call, and then got the foul on the Burke block was a costly 20 seconds for Michigan, difference between a 1 and 5 point game (and it went from 5 to 10 quickly after that). But that's one sequence, which happens. That was the only part of the last 20 minutes where officiating was really noticeable (other than the McGary choke hold on Behanan's layup).

That 20 seconds cost Michigan the game

Nothing like a good reach around......................................................................on defense.

The refs missing a few calls like the goaltend and letting them play down low does not make it "the worst officiated game ever". Do any of you guys actually still play basketball?

The refs were calling it consistently at both ends. That is pretty much all you can ask for from the officials. Some of you may have wanted a free throw contest, but luckily the refs disagreed. It is also clear that some of you think Burke should have gotten superstar treatment. Luckily the refs disagreed.

Give me a break. What nonsense. It was not consistent, and favored Louisville. On top of that, they chose to allow considerable fouling, which is what Louisville needs to really make their press effective. Had they chosen to call fouls normally, Michigan wins.
