From John A.'s latest blog entry:

"Sophomore Bria Hartley, a Big East first-team pick, is in the midst of the worst shooting slump of her life, particularly from three-point range. Hartley is shooting just 31.5 percent from behind the arc. She was 16-of-42 in the three Big East tournament games from the field, just 2-of-17 from three. In her last 13 games, Hartley is 15-of-74 from three (20.3)."

Bria and KLM are discovering that there is life w/o 3's. Bria's penetration with pull-up possibilities and KLM's shorter shots and garbage collecting provide effective ways for them to fill the score-sheets. Besides, we can always rely on Kelly to pick up the 3-point slack, just make sure to run the clock down and be sure she is off-balance; can't miss then.

As John said, Harley was 16-42 and 2-17 on 3's.

As bad as her 3 point shooting was , she was 14-25 on all her other shots.

And as always being the optomist, I expect this 3 point shooting slump to end in the NCAA tourney. Bigtime.

IMO, which is not too tutored admittedly (having killed off Hoopstreams out of total frustration), Bria is tired and the break may be great, but the back up plan is still some ups and shoot closer in (and fouls are a nice plus on this strategy). Bottom line: Geno has the plan, team executes.

I said that Bria was the key to our success before the SJU game, and she did I think come through with two pretty darn good games to help us win the BE. I still say that Bria will be key for us in the tougher games of the NCAAs. That doesn't necessarily mean that she has to make a lot of 3's though. Those pull ups, those breakaways for the layups, an an ocassional 3 and smart defense will do us proud.

We will NOT beat Baylor without a good long-range shooting performance. Against other teams, it's less critical.

Probably true. Griner covers so much ground that midrange shots can get blocked. Alternatives to outside shooting could include fast breaks, attacking the basket from the weak side, free throws, and getting BG into foul trouble. We need to keep her block tally to 5 or less.
