The last 2 championships for UConn came as a shock to everyone else in the country. Duke's championships came as a 1 or 2 seed in seasons where they were constantly talked about as championship contenders.
To some people, the Duke type seasons are more "legitimate." They were expected to win and then they won.
With UConn, people will tend to chalk it up to flukiness of the tournament if they want to still worship Duke.
Isn't it odd how UConn has (by some peoples estimation) 3 fluky NCs and those same people would probably be hard pressed to name another fluky NC.
Cuse is the closest in the past 15 years and few consider them fluky bc you know, Melo.
Maybe UConn really is just underrated many years.
UCONN has had plenty of "championship calibre" teams that lost in the elite 8 (or earlier) that could have easily won it all.
Ray Allen's game against UCLA. Donyell against FL. Chris Smith against Duke.
The team that lost to Erica Dampier and Mississippi State? I thought that was our most talented team ever.UCONN has had plenty of "championship calibre" teams that lost in the elite 8 (or earlier) that could have easily won it all.

Kind of amazing considering the seemingly increasingly insane amount of media hype they continue to get, but Duke has been to only 1 Final Four this decade. In 2010. That's Syracuse territory.

I might buy one flukey championship but when you have a similar run a few short years later, it throws the whole theory out the window…The last 2 championships for UConn came as a shock to everyone else in the country. Imagine the cognitive dissonance that will cause in the college basketball universe.
I hate duke as much as the next guy but they've been to 15 final fours (3 times as many as Uconn) and 10 national title games. TEN. no matter how you slice it that's pretty awesome.I am so surprised that Duke gets the level of respect vs. the level of respect we get when they won their first national title a whopping EIGHT YEARS before us. 1991.

True, but that wasn't the question. The question was why Duke gets respect. 15 final fours and 10 championship games over 35 years is the answerTrue, but witnessing Uconn beating Duke twice in the FF is pretty awesome as well .
