Geno was hired in August of 1985, which means his first recruiting class would have been the high school class of 1986. Now, I understand that recruiting was a later-happening and less involved process at the time, but in fairness, he and CD did miss at least some of that recruiting cycle. That means that 1987 was the first recruiting cycle for which Geno and CD were in Storrs the entire time.
Why does this matter? Well, the 1987 class included a relative blue-chipper from Epping, New Hampshire. And starting with that class and every class since, any kid who has stayed at UConn for four years has gotten to experience at least one Final Four.
Pat Summitt made the Final Four of the very first NCAA women's tourney in 1982 and of course won her last championship in 2008. In the interim, all of her classes between 1981 and 2007 went to at least one Final Four during their collegiate careers. Geno is about to blow past that 26 year standard.
Just one more way of looking at this incredible run Geno and CD have produced.
