I rewatched the National Championship game (for the 12th time) and was amazed at how dominate the team was over a nine minute period. UConn led SC 50-39 coming out of a timeout (after the Ice Brady TO led to a layup by Faigan) with 3:12 left in the 3rd Q...but then led 80-48 with 4:18 left in 4th Q. A 30-9 run against the defending National champs...WOW!!!

The most important stat concerning the National Championship game was Sarah Strong's 11 defensive rebounds in the first half. SS beat South Carolina up under the basket both physically and mentally.

Say SS gets 4 less rebounds and they convert them for 8 points, then it's a 2-point game at the half. Then it's a ballgame. South Carolina never had a chance in the second half.

SS's boxing out probably accounted for another 3-4 additional UConn rebounds by other players. And South Carolina was one of the top offensive rebounding teams in the country. Yeah Right. Not on that day.

Your post reminded me of:
  • I think we went ahead by 32 and totally nonchalantly and matter-of-factly, KK and Paige were setting a trap in the backcourt before an SC timeout to get subs in. I thought it was a thing of beauty.
  • We can’t forget that we did this to SC twice. Dawn had no answers, besides looking to the sky, head back, cursing. Have we ever seen Geno at a total loss for something to do? Arizona, Ohio State, SC in 2022.
  • Dawn wants to be the “Grand-Poo-Bah”. Geno snatched it back from her. Ouch. Reminded me of the Skins Game in golf, when they tweaked the rules, so that the skin wasn’t won unless the player “consolidated” the skin by winning the next one too. I think everyone wants to see if Geno can “consolidate” last year’s Natty by winning another one.

I have watched every Big Dance game at least three times and the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four and Championship games at least six times each. I also have watched the February game at SoCar at least six times.
One thing I noticed was for every historical fact that ESPN displayed, like in the games where the AP Preseason #1 and #2 teams were in the NC, the #1 team won, when UConn was the "underdog", we bucked the trend. There were quite a few of these...

The scouting report for the UCLA game should be carved in granite and put in a museum somewhere.

  • Dawn wants to be the “Grand-Poo-Bah”.
Really? You know this how?

Geno & Dawn enjoy a friendly, mutually respectful relationship. So much so that he chose her as an assistant coach when he was head coach of the National Team at the Olympics. I’m sure Geno would disagree with the above and since he actually knows her, his opinion carries more weight

I noticed that too. It seemed to me that, after the February game, ESPN kept promoting SoCar to keep the tournament interesting.

I have one question, did Dawn ever get fined for all of the "F" words that she said during the National Championship Game? Almost every time the camera was on her after UConn did something she said it.
Lol. I wondered how loud she sounded in the game with all the fans there, but it was very noticeable on t.v. what she was saying!! Getting thumped by as many points as her teams did for the second time in two months will have that effect. 😉

Is there a rule against using profane language not specifically directed at an official or player?
Wasn't/isn't Geno known for launching F bombs during a game?

I believe it was the first 13-0 run on the "F" word between Head Coaches in NC game history from 6:34 in the 3rd Qtr to 4:59 in the 4th Qtr. There might be a banner in there somewhere... 😎 🔥 🔥 😎

Are you sure she was not a Navy veteran?!?

Go Huskies!!!!

Consolidate!!!

I know all that stuff. I follow this too. Are you paying attention to the perceived tension between them now?
You don't think she wants to be the foremost women's basketball coach? Sorry, unless she tells me personally, I won't go out on a limb like that again.

There will ALWAYS be conflict between two " ALPHA " personalities. It is inevitable. Co existence is possible, but strained. I love them both for what they bring to the Women's game of BB and their dedication to the game. They both have earned their NICHE in BB history. I was entertained by ALL the facial expressions on Dawn's face during the Championship game.

The way the "sports press" talked about her for the last 3-4 years you'd think she is the Grand-Poo-Bah. And what's wrong with wanting to be that?

Yeah, most of which featured her mouth iin the position that ensues when one is shouting a word that begins with F and ends with K! 😎

Oh please! Perception (by whom?) and reality are not the same thing. I have no doubt that Dawn would like to be a highly successful basketball coach. Based on numerous interviews, her definition of success appears to include creating the conditions for her players to grow as human beings and be successful in life. That is true of Geno as well. In neither case does the desire to be Grand Poobah begin to capture their motivations or approach to their common vocation.

Flock! Come on you gamecocks (birds), flock! Together! Now! That's want she was really saying, all perfectly innocent.
