what was Saniya thinking to start that early and give Mississippi state a last chance. Anyway that's not her game to drive to the hole specially in a deciding game. She's a senior with that kind a bonehead play at the end only tells me one she wanted to be the Hero for Uconn. This was a different Uconn team from what we see all year. They seem nervous and tight so once that 16 point lead came they worked they way back and I though they tried to turn a tie game into a 10 point lead every possession. But What a year both teams win in my eye. Uconn will be there to do it again next year and I'm glad we don't have to worry bout the streak anymore because it's another one that's going to start next year and maybe the next 2 years. Gabby showed last night she is ready to be the best in college basketball next season. Can't wait

I can't resist Nan's invitation to hash it out once and for all. Let me first point out that none of the replays in this thread are definitive but the second slow motion replay on last nights broadcast is definitive and it clearly shows this was a terrible no-call. Here's why. That replay ( but not the first. one) indisputably shows that when William first arrived in front of Soniya, Chong verred to her righ ( William's left) to try to avoid running into William. William then extended her left arm across Sonia's chest in a classic arm-bar to impede her progress. Foul number one. She then hit Sonia's right arm when Sonia still had her hands on the ball. Foul number two. Thus unless Sonia first commited a charge this replay indisputable shows she was fouled. I think it would be a real stretch to conclude that Sonia did commit an offensive foul but at least a plausible argument can be made that she did. If so it needed to be called because if she didn't commit the charge she was clearly fouled. The one outcome that is indefensible is that neither player commited a foul. It is simply wrong to say you can overlook William's foul on Sonia because Sonia might have first commited a charge. Something needed to be called

Pheesa at least was set and in a proper screening position. She can't jump in front of William, so fanning is not the right terminology. But it's supposed to be a double screen. Watch Gabby. She's still moving to try to get in front of William as Saniya takes off. That can mean that either Gabby was slow getting set or Saniya was too early, going before the screen was set, or a combination of the two. It probably was meant to be a quick play, though, before the other team could figure out what was going on.

I'll tell you one thing I don't think I have seen mentioned, part of the thought process had to be 'someone better be aggressive' because I thought she and Gabby were the only two for long stretches that actually looked aggressive on offense. There seemed to be a lot of waiting around for someone else to make a play or take a shot.

That was the weakness with this team lurking - the attitude and reality that someone always had stepped up in games, but they had always stepped up early and often, and this was the last minute and no one really had except those two some of the time.

I don't like heaping on---after watching the game a few times--Collier, during the game and more near the end, while in positions she normally takes shots--passed the ball time after time--why?? Who knows, not me. But let me give it a shot--Napheesa as a frosh had limited time--Sophs (unless you are DT) don't take charge, Seniors do, so the Frosh, Sophs, look to the upper classmen--Gabby did all she could--but she needed Collier and Katie lou --no girl is and island. Another weakness of no Senior leaders.
Yes UCMiami---lots of standing , drifting, not wanting to screw up. Thats when Katie took the shot--in my opinion--should have demanded the ball on offense--but she is a soph. Uconn lost--it's in the history books-

We were at the game. Our seats were maybe halfway up on the side court about opposite the foul line. We couldn't see Chong's play real well because we were closer to the other end of the court and her play occurred on the left side of the court from our vantage point.

They showed no replays at all during the games in the arena, so I was only able to see the replay for the first time from this video.

I clearly see it as a no call. Seeing it live at the game, with both players sprawled on the floor, you figure something should be called because there must have been contact. But we weren't close enough or sitting on that side of the floor to get a really good live look at that play. After seeing the video, it clearly looks like whatever contact there was falls into the incidental, no harm no foul category.

I GO to many women's basketball games at the college level and they always have replays on the big screen. I was very disappointed that in order to see them at the american airlines arena i had to run up to the foyer Tvs in the lobby.

That had nothing to do with the arena. The NCAA won't allow replays shown inside the arena at the Final Four. They know the officiating is generally pathetic, and they don't want the image of crowds angrily responding to clearly wrong calls on the replays. It detracts from their game presentations on TV.

But it was Saniya who made a biggie mistake with 20 seconds left. As a senior you should know better. That FSU game counted far as the Streak goes on but I'm sure they really wanted to get to the lady game and win. But take nothing away on a tremendous season by Chong. This year run made her future a lot brighter

Thanks for those five minutes. UCONN had many chances to go up six. We lost the game, plain and simple. Plenty of blame to go around and that's good.

Just pointing out that it was something that she did in a pressure situation. Her game was not just from the inside. If Napheesa had not famed on the screen you would be talking about what a great play it was

It was an offensive foul on Saniya. When Saniya turned towards the basket, she was out of control. In my opinion, the no-call was a make-up call for the fouls called against UConn that wasn't fouls.

In reviewing the play, I am struck by the lack of movement by the other UConn players. Maybe not standing around but no one got open. I think Saniya saw daylight for a split second and, in her mind, had no other available options.

Maybe the lack of movement was because it was way too early to be thinking shot.

No, it wasn't. It was an individual breakdown. In that spot, tie game - shot clock off, the play is to get a shot to win without giving the other team a chance to win. Even if that shot goes in, it would have still been a bad play. MSU would have had the ball with a chance to win with plenty of time on the clock. And this throwing shade at Collier on this is sickening.
