All I've ever asked of this team is to play with some intensity and passion. I'm pleased so far. Let's hope we can maintain that throughout the game. I feel much more comfortable doing this with coach Calhoun on the bench, no disrespect to Blaney of course.
At this game - couples this noticed - AD truly does play like a lost freshman out there. He is so out of position so often on both ends and has no idea what to do with a basketball if not a foot from the rim. He's allowed a number of offensive rebounds in his space and shots to go up. Unimpressed - a beast physically but a deer - he's getting most of the minutes thus far. A couple nice leads created only to allow dumb plays/offensive rebounds and turnovers to let Pitt right back in it. So is this team.
Overall well played first half - guard play was great. Bringing Boatright off the bench was a nice spark. The rotation was great - good to see Roscoe getting more and more minutes and Tyler/Neil's used sparingly - he's a plus guy out there and brings presence/energy to the floor. Only major knock is the rebounding - continuing to watch AD up close - kid just can't make quick decisions out there.
Will make a call now on him and I know way premature and me playing armchair wannabe scout - will get drafted high but never be more than serviceable big guy in the NBA - I know he's young, but something on how things move upstairs with him is going to keep him from separating himself. As big and athletic as he is(average in the NBA) I don't see the instincts or natural mental reflex out of him. You measure him up against a kid like Davis where it all just comes so natural and they are light years apart. The kid is 100% potential and I don't think that potential is nearly where some of these prognostications suggest.
I will be surprised if this team hangs on to win this today. Typical second half performance. Goodbye Jeremy. Goodby Andre. Hopefully next year's team will have a will to win, something which this year's team clearly lacked.
It is becoming a phenomenon on just how absolutely consistenstly ridiculously stupid this basketball team is - a fade away 17 footer from Nappier? And an offensive foul away from the ball after a timeout. If they lose this game this team may go down as the team that knew how to lose best in Uconn history - they have made an art of it.
I have a feeling one of the first things JC showed Blaney upon his return was the Charging rule. Blaney then responded by saying,"No way! You can do that!? Hey guys check this out!"
So far Bazz and Scoe manned up and took a charge. I remember AD taking one in a previous game. Hopefully Alex starts getting charges. I'm not even going to hope on Lamb being the delicate flower that he is....
