Some posters will remember the stunning comeback by Texas high school senior Courtney Okolo, documented in a Boneyard thread from 2012, where she made up a ridiculous deficit on the final leg of the girls' 4x400 relay at her state championships:
The thread itself, kindly brought to us by alexrgct as the OP (thanks, Alex!), can be found. here.
Fast forward to the present - It should come as little surprise that the recently graduated (Univ. of Texas) Ms. Okolo has dominated this race and now owns the all-time NCAA record at 49.71 secs. Unfortunately, she had a somewhat disappointing performance at the Olympic trials, running well off her own personal best, something that the TV commentator mentioned was not uncommon for American college runners who also train to peak for the NCAA championships.
Fortunately, Ms. Okolo still made the Olympic team as a member of the relay pool and the preliminary heats are being held this evening. The final is tomorrow evening (Saturday). She will certainly run in the preliminaries and with any luck, she will earn the nod to run in the final alongside Allyson Felix and compete for Olympic gold. This assumes everything goes smoothly tonight!
This young woman is a very special talent - one whom I expect will be a medal contender in the next World Championships and subsequent Olympics. She's the real deal, folks. Keep an eye on her and on the 4x400!
Go Courtney! Go USA!
